I wouldn't call these "rules", since that would imply never do these things. It's a good guide for starting out, but over time you'll learn how to break the "rules" and work outside the box. Like "#3 Don’t use broad match for all your keywords". Good advice in general, but once you learn about using negative keywords and site exclusion, broad match can give you outstanding results.
Is it possible to do two different campaigns. One aimed at search. The other one aimed at content networks ? Can you get the best of both worlds this way ?

Wow I guess if your going for search only. However, I spend my days in the content network personally.
