Here are some online (free) utilities and tools that I frequently use to monitor how well my sites are doing. I have also included some online resources that I use (or used to use) for scripts, images etc. I thought these might be useful to people here. Maybe others can share their favourites! McDar's tool: This is probably the most used utility, especially when Google does a PR update. This tool checks multiple Google servers and tells you your ranking on different servers for a given keyphrase. If you get different rankings on different servers, it usually means that Google's updating (internal) PR. It also checks BLs and toolbar PR. DigitalPoint KW & BL Tracker: Set your account up to automatically check your ranking on Google, Yahoo and/or MSN for multiple websites and multiple keyphrases. Also checks Google PR and BLs. Linkalizer: This is a nice little site (free, required recip link) where you can register to find other webmasters in your category to exchange links with. So, if you have a travel site you can register here and find out webmasters with Travel related sites and exchange links with them. You choose who you want to exchange links with and you add the links. So, it doesn't have any unethical linking practices involved. Plus, you can also have a look at the websites before you send them a link exchange request (automatically sent through the site). Worth a look! Article City: I often write travel (and travel photography) related articles that I publish on my New Zealand Photography site. I also submit them to Article City. They are usually approved and published on a PR4 page within a week. The author's information can contain a link to your website. Moreover, there are lots of other sites out there that grab these articles from Article City and publish them on their sites. This is great exposure for your site! Ezine Articles: Same as Article City. You get to submit up to 10 articles for free. Google Adsense: If you've got a website that gets a lot of traffic, you might as well make some money from it right? How to Create a Website: Tips for Absolute Newbies Web Directories List of SEO friendly directories Links are quite important for most search engines. So, here are two lists of directories that you can submit to. Some of these SEs will actually send you traffic directly from the SE, so even if it doesn't affect PR it is still good as it gives you more exposure. Ex: Even if you get 5 referrals a month from each SE, 100 SEs will give you an extra 500 visitors a month. Worth it, isn't it? Before you submit to these directories, do download Roboform. It's a great little utility that will save you a lot of time. Once you download it, you can create a separate "Identity" for all of your websites. Use the 3 "Custom fields" for your URL, title and description and you will be on your way! Sandbox Detection Tool: Use this just for fun! Thanks Az. I've deleted it from the list. I hadn't used this one for a while, but it used to be a great resources with lots of free images for webmasters. It seems that they don't have that section on their site anymore. The main site HTML Goodies is still a pretty good resource though with lots of useful tutorials.
