Is there such a tool out there which would allow me to automate the process of adding my sites and my sitemap urls to Google webmasters. I own about 7000 websites at the moment (mostly subdomains spread over 50 plus domains) i have added 500 thus far and took a couple of days!
Is there such a tool out there which would allow me to automate the process of adding my sites and my sitemap urls to Google webmasters. I own about 7000 websites at the moment (mostly subdomains spread over 50 plus domains) i have added 500 thus far and took a couple of days Failing that would adding say SITEMAP /sitemap.xml to the robots.txt work in getting the Googlebot to the sitemap just as well?
The protocol for automatic XML sitemaps discovery is more like Sitemap: http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml Code (markup): But besides that, yes, I think that would be enough. You still need to create and upload the sitemaps though.
I think what he's asking for , is a tool to update the search engines every time the sitemap changes. I've created something that does just that, except I dont have 7000 sites to update. You just put in the sitemap url , hit submit and it lets google, yahoo, ask and live know to look at the sitemap again.
Why would such a tool be useful? It seems to me that search engines only use the sitemap when they crawl the site, and updating search engines of a new sitemap doesn't get them to crawl the site any faster. In other words, a tool like this wouldn't help your site get crawled faster, and it wouldn't help get more pages crawled since the domain.com/sitemap.xml will be read by the search engine when it crawls the site. What am I missing?
