That seems kind of pointless, Danny. You noticed the big jump, but now it's stable. Why risk it dipping from "stable"?

It doesn't work for everyone, mostly it depends on your ad placement in conjunction with your site's layout. I.e. does the "advertise on this site" normally stand out? If it didn't before, then taking the text off won't really do anything, etc.

I did not notice any perceptible ctr improvement when I removed “advertise on this site”, --but I did not like the look of it anyway, kinda tacky, so I’m glad we have the option of removing it..

I would say exactly that Jack, alot of people who visit my sites dont know what the ads are, but if they are in the same business & want placement on my sites they click the advertise link & it walks them through the process there & then instead of them having to look around for how to advertise.

That link definitley gets used alot on my site(s)..........

Seriously, if Adwords advertisers have the money to spend targeting a specific site, I'm pretty sure they know how to do it without having to be provided with a link. Don't you think?

In the long-term was the CTR double rate consistent?

I think it stands out especially if you blend your ads with your site. If you just use all black adsense ads you probably won't notice much difference in CTR.

I just removed mine. I'll keep everyone up to date on the status. Lately my CTR has been extremely low..and i noticed when taking off the onsite advertising the link in there was actually a link to my old site..Could this have played any role in my low CTR lately? Keep you posted!

    It works if:
You've integrated your AdSense directly into text or articles and into navigational elements. OR the Advertise on this site is in the open and detracting from things.

    It doesn't work if:
You've just thrown them onto some forums and the ad is sitting on its own in the open with its own colour scheme etc.

I don't think that that little link would change your CTR at all. If anything, it'd make you money from the referals that you could make (rare but could still happen).

I did this and since about 1 day after the change I have noticed mixed differences..yesterday, my cpr went up early in the day..but by the end of the day it was back down to the crappy 0.2%...Today I have noticed a large increase in clicks and my cpr is up to 0.4%..still not that great but as long as im making more money ill leave it..

    Hi,

I think you should have it turned off, especially if you are running several web sites. Clicking on "Advertise on this site" may reveal the main URL you have used when you signed up for AdSense.

I had it turned on for most of June with a CTR or 0.93%. At the end of June I turned it off. So far for July I have a CTR of 3.25%.

This change was done in conjunction with a couple of other optimizations designed to blend the ads better to the site.

I think the "trick" is what has become common knowledge lately: blended ads do better.

If removing the tag makes the ads look more "natural", you *may* see better results. If your ads are already pretty well optimized you may not see a change in CTR.
