Hello people. I had a try earlier this year to create a site and drive traffic at it. Even though I tried initialy I could not keep up and my little project failed. I though I would give it another try, but this time take it slowly. I am reading in the forum daily and my brain overflowed!!! I spent much time just reading about all these marketing techniques, I connot image how much time it will take me to really apply them! Also time is of course needed to create the content. How do you manage? I mean i read about people doing this at their spare time... how is this possible!!! I would really appriciate if somebody could clear this up for me --> Which marketing technique is most important, which should I do first, which ones are just optional, which are vital. I need a starting point. Please! Thank you very much for reading. From my writting I think you can understant how dizzy I feel right now!
The starting point is getting the site online with ORIGINAL Content, and make sure in the design stage that the site SEO Friendly ...................plus make sure the site has a unique 'look n feel' then you can slowly roll-out the marketing etc etc
Hello again, and the learning frenzy continues! I think is pretty bad for me to read all this information and at the end to not know what to do! Actually I took your advice, and taking it easy, creating a website of something I am interested in, which is electronics. Since my hobby is in electronics I though it would be a good idea to write down stuff I learn and publish the projects I am working on. anyway I know that the field I chose is not good at all since there are very few searches of the keyword in relation to this, but at the same time there are many sites with much much much much much more information than my site is going to have in the near future. However I am very positive and everyday after my job I try to write and update the site. Now to the marketing point of view I have submited my site to google, and 5-6 directories. But I am looking for alternative methods of attracting people. I know that many people suggest that you should post your site to relevant forums. This is great for some subjects but for mine.... I dont think so. Because those site that are relevant to mine have so good information, why would somebody want to come to my site? Why would somebody driving a ferrari want to drive my honda? You see what I mean? Dont get me wrong, I honestly believe that somebody who is a beginer (not only) would like my site and will find some good information (well maybe not right now, but in a while). SO!! The big question! How can I drive people to a not so popular subject site? What should be the next step, along with adding new content? Also. I am looking at my logs, and I can see that no robots have crawled through my site. How much should it take? Thank you for reading!!!!
I think the first thing should be get useful link to your site that will get you traffic right away and it will always keep it coming. 2nd change and add content alot.
You suffer from Information Stress... too much information that you cannot sort out quickly does not do you good... You need to know that many people who visit this forum have been doing Internet marketing for years... look at the number of posts they made... Take a break... and then sit down and write down what you think is the reason that you did not get traffic to your site... for example Then concentrate on solving ONE problem at a time This is what I do and it works for me... Finally, there is so much hype going on too... so switch that off ... I don't think people make $10 000 after 3 days of doing online marketing... Keep Going!
Well, I doubt most people here have a truly unique website. There is always competition. There is always someone doing what you want to do. Was Google first? Was Internet Explorer first? Where's Netscape now? If you enjoy your topic, just work at it. You may never beat the big boys but you can always carve out your own little corner of the web, and make money. Go to tech/electronic forums, provide your expertise, leave your sig, and people will check you out. Will you beat Engadget or Slashdot or whatever your market is? Doubtful but who cares? You enjoy it? Just plug away at it. I know I am always looking for sites that have what I want. For example, I was trying to find info on hooking together a vcr, digital cable, flat screen tv, and stereo together. I checked every site on the first page of google and had decent info but none of them had clear, simple directions, with diagrams that I could understand. Most were scattered bits and pieces, usually in some forum. Find me that site, and I will always return.
Yes you are right. I agree with you and dont get me wrong! I dont expect the $10000 after 3 days and even never! A small amount of money ($1 a day ) would be just fine for me. If I know that at least SOMEBODY reads what I write is enough for now (and particulary for this kind of site). This is my first project where I will try to test what I read in these forums, but at the same time create a community for the my hobby (that would be the greatest satisfaction!) @technomad: I understand and agree with everything you said. But in practce seems much more difficult to actually do that! I believe that I need the initial boost, to see that it has some potential. And I think this is the most important thing actually. First time is so hard, not because it is actually "hard" to do it BUT because you doubt that it can work. Happens to my all the time. My first project in electronics was so dead simple. However I was convinced that it would not work because I never done it before. After the first time it was a joke. If you know you can make it work, that's it! So if somebody is interested in a brief introduction in microcontrollers goto my site http://www.electronicProjectsHome.com and tell me what you think. I know is there is still not much information but I am working on it! Thank you all for your replies and please post more advices if you want.
Hello again. I would like your help on a couple of questions I have: (1) I can see that my site gets 1-2 visits from robots, but they dont crawl throughout the site. I can see that they just access the root and thats it. Should they follow the links of the site? (2) Should every individual page include the meta tags about keywords description etc? or only the index.html? Thank you
