Although most of the things that are sold online (digital ebooks, software, etc.) can be found on warez/torrent sites, keep in mind that most of the population using the internet doesn't know what torrent and warez sites are, nor how to use them.
Imagine the average soccer mom, or 16 teenage girl, looking for warez, very unlikely.
This is computer/internet related forum so most of us know this stuff, but the majority of people using the internet are not like us.
So illegal free stuff can cause harm, however not to huge extent (in most cases).

Yes really nowadays almost software, games, script, movies, almost free and be shared very fast. Especially is the script, the cracker can turn the script to be nulled and be used officially without paying anything to the official company

yes, it is too bad they have no respect for the programmers and the people that worked many hours to create something, then they crack it and steal it :(

Google give away free things, yet that make a whole lot of money.

It's the way of the future... Giving away free things and using ingenuity to make money at the same time.

...for now. My prediction is that Google has started a "Free Trend" that will continue growing exponentially, and will eventually eat away their bottom line proftwise.

Yes you can get most things for free on the internet, but this has been the case for years and yet information products such as those on Clickbank are still selling like crazy.

The thing is that a lot of people are prepared to pay for information there and then and want a quick solution rather than having to trawl the internet for hours on end.

There is no free things actually. For example, Gmail had been first launched with one gigabyte storage and easy to use while the other ones (msn, yahoo) only give you 5 - 15 megabytes. It has stated as free but not free actually. Do you see the ads when your check your mail via Gmail? That's it. Google give Gmail as free but collect and use your personal data as their marketing purpose in return of their "FREE", even they have stated they are not.

And as someone told about no quality in free things and that's true. Gmail comes with quality but, what will happen if Gmail server is crashed and your personal data wiped out just a glance? If you don't have any backup of your email so what would you do? You cannot sue Google and Gmail for anything because it's "FREE" and remember Gmail is always "BETA" state.

You got what you paid, easy example is PHPLD directory script. They are much different in features between free version and paid version. You may find many of paid scripts via torrent, but don't you think that someone may integrated some trojan/backdoor in those scripts and steal your data when you use it on your website? That is a risk that you have to take, some do and some don't. They gave you free things in return of their own benefits. If you are not experienced programmer then how do you know that? See? No real free things. :)

Agreed, but we can't assume that because you pay that it's quality. Someone could put a backdoor on something you pay for just as easily. and then you feel even more stupid because you paid for your computer to get hacked.

i don't know where you got that 'no one pays for anything online anymore'... if that was true, I don't think internet marketing would exist... more and more ppl are spending money online, it's just convenient and although you can get free stuff like games and that online, I think being free helps the creators in some weird way. They're getting their product to more people and eventually it will pay off, whether those ppl are paying for your stuff or not. Life works weird like that but the billionaires of the world are that way because they GIVE billions away.

Also I think the saying, the best things in life are 'free' applies so no not all free things are crap :p
