Too many spam bots attack at my SMF.

I am running SMF. I get more than 50 porn or such related spam. They all are bots. I have made a trap which all of them fall. My first category is changed for them.

I have used different image verification and email verification but only 5-10% decrease.

The best way is to use Akismet Spam Blocking. But it is out dated for my SMF 1.1.6

Any way?

 

try restricting new user access to only a few areas of your forum till they reach a certain post count. the Akismet mod can be modified to install on 1.1.6

captcha and email verification should remain in place.
and start banning the ip numbers of offenders.

 

I am fed up with banning. If i restrict it may affect my forum reputation. Can you tell me how to modify akismet.

 

package info.xml in the akismet download has version info in it, just add 1.1.6 where its needed, rezip it and try to install it.

as for reputation, banning users for spam isn't going to hurt your forums reputation. i would rather have a long ban list, then have to deal with porn images and spam posts.

 

I also have no problem. But i have over 1000 ips and 100hosts banned.

The thing which affect reputation is limiting posts.
