I was reading a thread about directories and someone said that if all your links were from directories, that could look spammy to the search engines. For my sites, the majority of my links come from forums. Is this a problem or not?
I wouldn't think that would hurt you, but those links won't be as helpful as other types (non-recip on a related site). Don't put all your eggs in one basket, regardless of the basket. Don't have all your links from forums, directories, or other link exchanges. Spread it around, get links from all types of places. You want your site to grow naturally, and appear that way to the search engines. If all your links come from one place, or one type of place it could raise flags that could lower your trust by the search engines.
As long as its not a link farming url im sure it dont effect how google sees your site in a negative way.
I used to have a similar question, until google gave me a PR of 4. At least %90 of my links were from forums at the time.Im pretty sure they dont hurt!
Here is the deal Say you signup with 250 forums. Each forum has your signature being shown. Several of those forums have nothing to do with your site, but maybe they deal with other interests. Google, MSN and Yahoo will not penalize or ban your website. If that was the case, they might as well penalize or ban over 60 million websites.
Thanks for your help. Will continue to post... Wow, 250 forums! You visit them one time and bye bye I suppose?
