So if I have a campaign running and I have A LOT of keywords in that one campaign, and all the keywords are highly relevant terms that might not be searched everyday. Is that bad? Is there such a thing as too many keywords in a campaign? Lets say I have 200 keywords, but only 100 of them actually even get impressions, ignore the fact that 30-40 of those don't or barely even get any clicks. Those other 100 that didn't get a single impression, should those be removed from my campaign? Does it affect my quality score or anything if they don't get any impressions or clicks? Would it be better to completely remove those 100 from the list, and stick with those other 100 that actually get impressions and work on those ones? Does it affect me negatively if I kept the other 100 that doesn't do anything at all for my campaign anyway? Thanks ahead of time.
I usually delete them if they don't get any clicks after few changes in the ads... not even saying about those that don't generate impressions
Oh really? Does it affect your campaign quality score or anything if you keep those "no impression" keywords on your campaign? Because isn't it always better to have it there JUST IN CASE than to not have it there? Any impression/click can be a potential sale no...? Also, why do you remove the ones that get impressions, but no/low clicks? Is that just because you want to improve your campaign and make it have a higher average CTR? Any help or suggestions would be great, thanks.
I have thousands of keywords spread out over 50 campaigns. I have tons that do not get impressions/clicks. Somethimes i will delete them to make it easier to manage my campaigns....but for the most part I leave them because one day they may generate a sale. I wouldn't about these affecting your quality score. I would only remove them if they have cost you money over time with no sales as a result.
I see. Good to know. So technically, having "too" many keywords in a campaign is not a bad thing. Well, at least to the case that it is not making you lose money. So even if it doesn't bring you any clicks or impressions, it's not a bad idea to leave it on there just because you'll never know when that 1 click or impression might turn into a conversion? So if it doesn't affect my QS or do anything negative for me, besides for being a pain in the ass to handle so many words in a campaign, I can just leave it there without any worries about it being a "waste/negative/downfall" then. Good to know, thanks.
I wonder if it affects anything, e.g. your other keywords cost increase, quality score (like said above)
What I would do is cut and paste them into another group and observe the result. Nothing beats testing and measuring - just my 2 pence...
I was on the AdWords discussion board some time ago and the AdWord mod there said (actually kind of insisted) that it is better to have about 20 keywords in each ad group. It's understandable that sometimes an ad can require more than 20 keywords, but the idea is the more relevant your keywords are to the ad the more results they'll produce.
You can have as many keywords as you want, you are not punished or penalized in any way. Even if the keywords get little to no search volume per month. Google has account limits of 50k for tier 1 accounts and you can use up every keyword in your account without any problems 200 keywords is very small and nothing to sweat about. I have many campaigns with over 10k keywords or even more with the same scenario where most of the keywords only get a few searches per day. This is not a problem and will not effect QS in a bad way. Its actually better and your account performance will be higher Its not going to effect your campaign, but if they get absolutely no searches in 30 days, then they are just taking up space. Remember your account keyword limit is 50k keywords, so you can keep them till you need more room
Cool, thanks for all that info Robert. Your answers really cleared things up for me and confirmed what the others said. Best help I could get for this question. Thanks again.
