Im not sure if you guys have seen any of my other postings.... but I basically SCREWED UP my website....

I was ranking 1st page for about 20 keywords..... for the last 6 months..... then 2 weeks ago I decided to add a bunch of links to other pages of the site on my homepage..... and that's when everything got messed up

Does anyone know if too many internal links on your homepag passes link juice to the other pages, and waters down your homepage?

My homepage was so strong, now my crappy subpages are ranking for keywords... not my homepage...... and theyre ranking on like the 5th page which sucks so bad!!!

I don't think so. You can have lots of links, as long as it doesn't look like a link farm.

Internal links on homepage doesn't seem to be a problem as long as it's still below 100 links, but fewer is better.

I have read it as well that you need to have below 100 links on your home page. Probaby, just wait and you might be back to the top again!

You must try not to add bad neighborhood links, well you have different sites to check if they are bad or not.

Use nofollow on those new links so you can shape where the pagerank flows.
Yes it will get diluted if you send it to many different links, your internal link structure should show google which pages are the most important.

This page has 700 internal links on its homepage... /http://www.4crests.com/
The site has PR5, 110k Alexa, and 15K compete rank.
If I were a betting man I'd have to say internal links don't hurt all that much ;)

I have read - one person's - view that using internal links with good anchor text can actually INCREASE a page ranking. Certainly, if you have internal links make sure anchor text is good.

Experiment - keep the links for the users and add nofollow to see if this restores you in Google.

One other thing - if you've dropped down so far so fast does this indicate that you've been hit by a Google penalty? I've read that they can drop you 30 places or 90 places if you break their rules.

You are loosing front page weight if you put do-follow links to internal pages. It is also a matter of how unique your landing pages are..
