Yesterday , I noticed all the sites on my sever were moving a sloooooow. So after some digging through amy access logs . I found out two HUGE Chinese sites were hotlinking to my images. they have so much traffic that all the image requests were killing my database and it keeps going down.

Anyhow I did the obvious and blocked the images , and my databases still keeps going down. I even deleted the images and put them on a image host. but the site still keeps requesting images causing all these DB connections.

I guess until they realize that the images don't show up any more and remove the links, this will keep happening. Is there some way to block the requests from those sites all together?

I can't even update my site... and it has been down so often I know I'm loosing tons on ad revenue...

    How can I solve this?
    Thank you

You can enable hotlink protection from cpanel. But I dont think it will have any effect on database connection - unless the image requests are HUGE - millions - making yor web server slow. Static file request doesnt normally take much server resources. You may not have fond the real reason for database issue.

    In my access logs

Apperently they are very popular in China... as a result MANY other chinese forums went and copied it as is and started to link to the images...

The site's database keeps going down still , even though I deleted the images...those sites are still requesting the images.

(I've found like 30 more chinese forums hotlinking to the same (full sizes images)

I've notice the've all refered to this site as to where they got it...

    http://1.97gao.com/html/15/2008-3-29/82118.shtml

All I see is line after line of requests for thse images in my access loggs...

I have no doubt that I need to stop these sites from requesting thse images, I already blocked them through htaccess....

    What should I do now...???

Have your host or If you are the host. Add the IP section of trace route to the firewall and also add the IP
Hot linking to just one image will kill a data base.
Best bet is to stop it all together.,
Go to http://network-tools.com/ trace the domain > find the IP
And get it blocked from the server..

    This will stop that ..

It's the vistors browsing website and load image.
You can't block ip of visitors around the world.
The only solution is activate hotlink protection.
