Hello all, Newbie here. My silly site is just about 3 weeks old. I want to start building backlinks. My question is: How many backlinks are too many, too quickly? Depending on what tool I use to check it, I may have 140 or so???? My site is http://www.kidsareexpensive.com . Maybe you know a tool that shows an accurate figure for that site? I have heard a few folks talk about this. One said 10-20 per day is natural looking for a new site, another guy said that was too many. What would be the maximum number of backlinks to add per day for a new (less than 1 month old) site? How about a bit older (1-3 months)? How about even older (3-12 months)? Get what I'm wondering? Obviously, I want the links to appear natural (isn't it silly to think that any new site could "naturally get backlinks?? lol) I really appreciate the feedback from you pros. You folks have been really kind to me here so far. Thank you for that. :O)
I forgot to add that I wanted to submit an article to a fella that would post it to about 200 blogs with my sig link, but I'm nervous about doing that at this stage. Am I right?
Yep, I have a feeling that getting 200 backlinks in a day at this point would get me off the google index. I think... maybe. But even still, what do you think a good daily target would be at this point? 5, 10, 20, 50??? Thanks!!
Do not worry about how many backlinks and how fast, just diversify and get them from multiple sources using a variety of anchor texts and to your inner pages as well as the home page. Also it won't be 200 backlinks in a day, Google will take days if not weeks to pick up all 200 links especially if they are on mediocre blogs that don't get crawled heavily.
It depends... See here is the thing, even if you got 100 links a day, not all of those will index as backlinks that day, or the next. Every site indexs at different times, there is no way to really track it. But steer clear of socials in large #s as you can get a traffic spike and from that you will get in trouble...
Wow, great info! Thank you!! Most of the guys selling blog links accept 3 links with one main and 2 deep. So doing 200 would make just 3 links. That wouldn't be much of a variety on the anchor texts. Would it? It will take a while for google 2 pick them up? Cool info. :O) Thank you!!
Traffic spikes can hurt??? Wow! That's new news to me. Correct me if I am wrong, but every site (well, almost all) indexes within 7 days. Correct? So if you create backlinks on say 400 sites, and they all index within 7 days, that's close to 60 per day. Would that raise flags with Google? A new site getting 60 backlinks a day? Sounds fishy to me. Hmmm... Thanks!!
If traffic spikes cause problems, people wouldn't be bending over backwards trying to get on the front page of Digg, doing press releases and linkbaits. If you publish a newsworthy story or article and get linked to by many, this is a great source of natural backlinks and surges of traffic. I hit page one for "SEO Company" in 1 month due to backlinks alone, and i purposely had the worst onpage imaginable just to prove a point and the site hasn't budged for about 6 months now. If a surge of backlinks hurt, this wouldn't of happened.
In this particular situation, I wouldn't worry about too many backlinks being an issue. Of course, it's always recommended to keep it natural and yes, thousands of backlinks in a very short timeframe would raise some "suspicions" but that is definitely not the case here. Alan Johnson
Good point. If a story got picked up by a major, and traffic surged, Google would take me off the index? Very good point. Hmmm...
Awesome! Now I just hope it can help me. lol I really want to know how many backlinks per day for a new site is too many that would show up as a problem with Google. :O)
Of course there is no exact amount of backlinks. For example, you got around 500 links in the first week but all of those links are from one website (sitewide). Then it'll be okay. If you got 500 links all from different websites, then it'll be a problem. But if you have many links from one site, I don't think SEs will penalize you. I experienced this myself
I noticed that one reply I made on one blog created something like 40 backlinks for some reason. I guess that helps to explain why that wouldn't be a problem for Google??? But getting backlinks from lots of sites really quickly can be a problem. Right??? So, what is the magic number (or range) for a new site. Can a new site get 5 backlinks with varying anchor text on various IP's, per day? OK, then can I get 10? 50? You see where I am going with this? :O)
Ahhhh.. gotcha! So you would say that backlinks on 200 sites with 3 anchor texts on mainly different IP's is OK? I wish it was more like 12 different anchor texts, but... :O)
