Tony Blair calls the invasion of Iraq a disaster and blames it on insurgents

In an interview w/ Sir David Frost on Al Jazeera network PM Blair responded to a question by acknowledging that the invasion has been a disaster.

He further stated that it was not a disaster on planning but because of insurgent attacks from 2 sides, Al-Queda and Sunni's on one side and Shiite militia on the other side. He further described these groups as the minority that want to disrupt things as foiling things for the majority that want peace.

That is a serious indictment against conditions of this war coming from someone on top.

Are you sure those opinions hold any credibility as they are made by someone who makes, creates or contributes to disasters on every subject that this inept guy talks about

Sure Iraq is a disaster period but it needs analyzing and commenting upon by people who want to unravel this imbrogolio but surely not by one of the guys responsible for this f**k up

Realistically this guy Blair lost all credibility a long time ago

This is the kind of thread starter that you often make. ;) Since he is Bush's only major international supporter and the only one who independantly added substantial troops--yeah it has a huge impact. Till now he pretty much parroted Bush's perspective.

The war in Iraq is a disaster because the American and British governments can't mind their own business. Were it not for oil interests, we would have never gotten in. And yes, I'm a conservative who does not support Bush or Blair one iota. Bottom line--our representative government no longer represents the majority of Americans and I suspect that the same is true in Great Britain as well.

Its an old british tactic this divide and conquer. They invade a country and arouse tensions between shias and sunnis and then complain about insurgents. What did you expect? A bouquet of flowers? A hundred people die everyday in Iraq. What a mess.

Yeah, the muslim on muslim violence has got to stop. Darfur is a perfect example that it doesn't take the US being involved for it.

I'm surprised so many people don't want Iraqis to have freedom. Is it a prejudice thing? Do this many people really hate Iraqis? I was under the impression that the vast majority of Iraqis were peaceful people and it's a very small minority that represent the "insurgent's" (aka terrorist's) view. That being the case, it seems like many who have stolen their freedoms off the backs of others are not willing for others to fight for Iraqi's freedoms.

    Makes ya wonder...

The really sad thing about our current state is that we can't really "throw the bums out" because the replacements waiting in the wings are also bums!

I appreciate that sentiment, but what do you suppose spawned all the terrorists to begin with? Why are they pissed off at us? They must have a valid reason, otherwise why not go after the Mexicans or South Americans or Africans. So once you truly understand the source of their anger, you begin to understand that terrorists only exist because we fostered the current environment that makes them feel so strongly about their cause that they are willing to die in the process of bringing us down so that they can preserve the liberties and autonomy for their society and nations. If you truly want a better understanding of what's going on and why, watch the movie "Syriana" with George Clooney and Matt Damon and also read the following article by journalist Cliff Pearson:

    http://www.greens.org/s-r/30/30-03.html

Venezuela was wise to kick us out and nationalize oil during the 70's, otherwise the rhetoric between us and them would be much more volatile than it currently is.
