Tons of visitors from I.P. 82.99.30.xx - 82.99.30.xxx

I continue to see a ton of visitors from Sweden with the I.P. address of 82.99.30.xx - 82.99.30.xxx. Everynight I get anywhere from 5-25 or more visitors at one time from those ranges of I.P. addresses. I did a quick search on google to see what that I.P. range came up with and it looks like they are spam bots.

What exactly are spam bots? What do they do? Why are they at my webpage? Should I ban that I.P. address range? If so, how?

    Thanks for any help given.

    They appear to be scrapers.

What scrapers do is save copies of webpages they crawl, then serve those pages with their own advertisements placed on them or with things like iframe exploits added on their own or compromised servers.

    I see.

The search on google came up with a webpage that described them as spam bots. After a little research spam bots gather email addresses from a website and then a human will take these and sell them.

Either way I don't want this program on my website so I just banned the I.P. range.

    Thanks for the quick response.

I'm seeing scraper in my searches. They're pretty much the same thing if you ask me though.
In any event, it looks like that IP range is up to no good & I don't see any problem with banning it. At least for the time being.

    BTW, you're welcome.

Use iptables to block that range of IPs if you're using a linux box.

Is it enough to block the IP range with IP Deny Manager in Cpanel?

I noticed it has been 17 months since your post. I wish I noticed sooner but this site has been grabbing files for the last 2 weeks on my server.

    (found though google)
