    Hi,

Sorry if there was a similar thread before.

But I do have a question which is very important for me.

Is it a good idea to register a new website on many visitors counters, topsites which give you backlink under link:sitename ? Usually such sites main page is pr0-5. I wonder if it is any good for seo or maybe google would consider it as spam or something and penalize a site?

I don't find it logical to decrease positions for it. Because competitors may register your site on such websites to get you down. Such sites do not ask to prove you are the owner of a website. You can put their counters on any site to make it work.

Personally I, did such a trick with some of my sites and the strangiest thing is positions haven't changed, also I got some site wide backlinks pr2 3 and that doesn't do anything. Positions were even a little number higher without backlinks, when sites were new. Or could it be that for lower pr like 0-3 backlinks I need a month or more to increase my site's rankings? Even if backlinks are counted under link:mysite?

Don't waste your time on topsites or other spammy links. To get good Google rankings, you need quality backlinks. Spammy links will do more harm than good. With a brand new website you likely have to be extra careful as you have not yet established any trust with Google. Once you establish some trust, they may overlook spammy links as they are diluted by quality links.

To get an idea of what kind of links you need to rank well, analyze the backlinks of the websites already on page #1 for your keyword.
