I realize that the ideal ad group should have very few specific terms within it for the ultimate QS. But recently I went in and put brackets quote terms in addition to my main broad terms. I also used Adwords tool to generate more terms. So, as a result, I greatly expanded my keyword lists within each campaign, with each keyword with Brackets, Quotes, and in Plain form. I can now clearly see which terms are converting -- but -- I do not see impressions for many of my terms. Is it true these terms have no even been ONCE searched for? OR is adwords doing something strange?
If you have tons of keywords but no impressions it means your account is under review. Check for disapproved ads too.
All things being equal that would be the case. However, because of the way the auction and placement is calculated it may be that, for example, the broad match keyword is triggering the ad rather than exact match. It all depends on the relative strengths and weaknesses of each keyword against the others in your own campaign as well as those of all other advertisers. What makes you think that? It does not matter how many terms you have in the group, it is the CTR of your account as a whole that is important. You can have an ad group with dozens of terms that rarely get shown, if ever, yet still have QS of 8-10. This is what Google says about the relevant factor in QS, "Your account history, which is measured by the CTR of all the ads and keywords in your account."
