Sometimes, when they have that bee-keeper bag on, all you can see is their eyes, and their eyes look very sexy, it does feed your imagination. And no, I'm not condoning the bee-keeper outfits, I'm just saying.

    Example:

Those are some really great eyes.

But how do you know if she's hot or not? You have to marry her before you get to see? If so, this explains the multiple wives thing. They just marry until they finally score a hot one, yes?

You are right on that one. You have to check the feedback on the family before you buy your wife. Camels don't grow on trees, you know.

I don't think that they will be arrested. They just beat the girls with a stick no bigger than a finger.

Kind of them. Of course, there is the question, why they hell do they have the right to lay a finger on them, then?

Once that's answered, then the next avoidance. I know, I know, a CIA plant to make the Taliban look bad. They must grow stouter fingers in certain countries, I guess:

No. Are you? I ask, because so far I have only seen butts in the air, and heads in the sand.

    Everything but an answer. Perfect.

No, I do not believe that at all. In fact, I have taken pains to bridge the obvious gap that exists between us, on this very board. You will note, that in the example of this picture, I stated my feelings, and then asked a direct question:

The answer? A non-answer. As with the thread on Khomeini and sex with children, as with every question put in good faith, an absolute torrent of non-answers, in fact. Which only weakens Islam, in my mind, and further drives the wedge between our respective cultures.

You, Skibladner, Hamba Wena, can continue to call it "Islamophobia," or what you will; or you can stand up and speak directly. Anytime you wish to engage along these lines, I am available.

north, The Taliban was like a cult. They wanted to start something very extreme and yes they did succeed with the help of others. If you look back in history, when the Americans left fulfilling their purpose, Afghanistan was left in such conditions that gangs were looting, raping and just pure chaos. Militias were coming from left and right fighting for power. Taliban stood up to be the bigger dog and they won power. I do not agree with the Taliban, they used their own version of Islam for their own political goals. Many prominent Islamic scholars have spoken out against the Taliban, only if we heard it here in North America.

Thank you. I do know of the history. I also appreciate your condemnation of their practices. I have asked for such a dialogue before - stretching back well over a year, I believe (yep - since at least well before October, 2007: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1545287&postcount=1) - and to my knowledge, you are the first to issue a considered thought, much less a condemnation, of them.

I do believe we need to understand Islam, Muslims, and all the peoples of the earth that hold to this faith, much better than we do. I think now, more than ever. By way of example, I think it was a tragedy - and very telling - that when the Iranian revolution broke out, there wasn't a single person in the State Department cadre that could speak farci, and no one actually even knew what was happening, much less how to respond, until well into the game.

But I think we get nowhere when legitimate questions are raised, and only artful dodging takes place. In these last few days, I have shown, I think, that I have a problem with what I perceive as the oppression of women in many Islamic societies. I have a problem with being labelled an "enemy infidel" for "speaking out against Islam," and therefore worthy of being put to death. I draw the line at "understanding" once such dialogue has decayed to the point of implied violence. That said, short of such a decay, I think "we" have much to learn from each other, and I am utterly willing to listen.

    Ahem
CIA and private organisation supported the T in Afganistan.
It was a lottery. They were chosen.
There were a lot of tribal feuds going on especially when the Ruskies withdrew.
The black thing women wear sort of had a fashion comeback as I recall in the late 80's in A. Any woman without one was noramally gang raped up the Kyber Passage! Along with anything nearby.
Hence it led to more extremists, and more a less a rise in those who committed at marridge to wear them.
Yeah they are quite trendy right now, just like nike white are with dom yorkd in DOminican republic.
It is a statement and yes some do it to piss off westerners, but can you really blame them? They have a lot to be pissed off about!
As for Islamic women, varies so much from country to country
    as said before.
Often local interpretation of what is wrong right etc but more due to peer pressure than a global conspiracy
Trouble is on DP which I think is very much a US forum tend to categorise things into slots a lot more.
    Good bad
    Black white
    Pick blue
Just the way your media works thus they tend to deny you a fuller picture of things

Still I cant believe that any of thousand womans think its comfortable to swim in that outfit. I believe that 999 of 1000 would prefer to swim without it if they really had the choice. I mean, if they love the burka so much, why dont they use it inside their homes as well ?

I'm no historian, but shouldn't the Russians take some of the blame for what happened in Afghanistan?
