There is nothing wrong with having a DMOZ clone as a resource on a site, I doubt that is going to get you removed. The problems come when your site IS a DOMZ clone, and carries adsense everywhere, and has footer links sitewide to allsorts.

I guess it is up to the google god. I would think they would consider how the directory obtained its high PR i.e. if a directory got a PR8 from a few paid links, or if it had many links because it was a popular directory. Business dot com has a PR7 with 23,000 link while bluefind was apparently a PR8 and is showing only 300+ backlinks.

I agree with you, but in the end it depends on what google wants to do and what their filters catch. I have a site that used DMOZ listings from a certain sector, which I manually edited and added to, and it hasn't been affected. It also doesn't have thousands of pages and doesn't sell listings- but was designed as an actual resource.

I really think Google could do with some serious competition. I hope MSN & Yahoo get their acts together properly. At the moment, Google has way too much influence.

And for that reason it is going to be seen as one. The problem IMO is when a combination of flaky directory elements come together. Dmoz clone, no editing of files (I have a dmoz seeded site, in fact I have quite a few, but they are all tidied up, with crap removed, and new sites added).

At the moment Google has way too much to put up with regarding attempted skewing of its SERP's. The moment the others get top dog, watch their quality go to the dogs as people swith the point of attack.

Well you should hit every directory that you see is seo friendly. Paying for a few good directories that are paid always does the trick also....

    thx
