1. use a hotmail or YaHoo! aacount when posting to discussion lists, news groups and message boards. If you start to receive alot of spam address, replace it with another account. 2. Be careful to whom you give your email. On Internet forms, leave the e-mail address space blank unless you're sure the recipient can be trusted. Don't sign-up anyway! 3. Many spammers use unsubscribe requests to verify which email addresses are legitimate. So, delete the message anyway! 4. Don't use free email services for business. Many free e-mail providers sell addresses to spammers. (but not YaHoo! or Hotmail, I hope) 5. Don't reply or forward chain letters that you receive by email, cause who knows one of the email addresses belong to spammer. Forward anyway back to where the email comes from! 6. Never sign-up for any service that claims to be a "Do Not Spam List," cause many of these services are set up by spammer.
Thunderbird has really great spam filters.. the nightly builds even filter them out instantly before they show up in the message list What I do, is have a doman just for email.. and basically setup a catch-all domain. So whenever I signup for something, I put my email as -- that way if I get an email at that address, I know where the spam came from. And more importantly, I can create a filter to effectively block any future spam going to that address. Josh
