To those who own directories...

The time has come. A lot of the directory scripts sort listings by their PR. A couple popular ones come to mind. Don't forget to update this so that your listings show the new PR and are properly sorted. You may need to contact the maker of the script for instructions. However, once you know how to do it, it should be easy for updates in the furture.

Ok, then please point me to a good method for querying google for pagerank (massively).
Oh, and keep in mind the api does not do this. ;)

On PHP Link Directory, it is an option to display pagerank that is used at the discretion on the directory owner. We do have "methods" to do this, but unfortunately there is no known "acceptable" method to "massively" query google for PageRank.

So please take note of that. :)

Thanks. :) Actually, I just went from PR6 to PR7. Once the Google problem occurred, and I came back from that, I was temporarily PR3. However, some of the directories have blazemp.com listed as PR0 (from when the problem was still active), some have it as PR3 (from after) and some have it as PR6 (from before it occurred).

I don't know about a "fix", but if you contact the developer, he will give you instructions on how to do it. I read him say that in a post somewhere.

I have not been able to find any that do it automatically. As far as I can tell, they all either require you to trigger it manually or require a tweak to make it occur.

What about querying one of the sites that do it using the "hack" method, such as this...

It is against Google's TOS to do automated querying. When you are approving one link, your browser can get the pagerank, just as you do now for any page with the google toolbar. Querying in an automated fashion to get all links is not something phpLD (or anyone for that matter) could do, and still fall within the terms of service. You can still still update individual links one at a time. A great way to comply with Google's TOS is not to use this feature. If you are able to find any acceptable methods to update the entire directory that Google allows, let me know, as I would love to publish the method.

Sorry about the "take note of that" riff. :)
The google api does NOT provide pagerank. You have to mimic the action of a browser, and doing that massively starts to be worrisome. That is why few people will publish a method for doing this. With sites like mcdar.net it is evident that Google tolerates this, but you'll notice that even he shuffles around which server he is using when he runs the queries. So the question becomes, which server do you plan to use to request pagerank thousands of times? And would you like to do that using your directory site? It's tricky business to say the least.
