Dont submit to SEs - get a link from a site with pr and your site will be crawled much faster!

I second that. When search engines find your site through a link on another site, they treat your site better :)

Google should find your site via another site's link, but if you have a lot of pages and you want them indexed, I'd do a Google Sitemap. I would probably submit to MSN though, their bot is pretty aggressive once you submit.

I don’t think so; one of my sites was crawled with no backlink, (on purpose).
All my pages are indexed, took about 3 months.

Google sitemaps allow indexed sites with loads of pages to tell google about all their pages easily. The site submission is for new and unindexed sites.

Google sitemap are a good idea if you have hundreds of pages to crawl, and you update your content regular.

I don´t think you can loose anything by submiting your site. If you can have search engines going to your site through links too much better, but wont hurt having submitted it, I think it all helps getting it indexed as soon as possible.

I've had recent experience with this. I registered a domain on 17th Feb and got it indexed 21st Feb purely from a few inbound links. No submission.

My finger was twitching over the 'submit url to google' button though.

I submitted my site and used a sitemap as well (hundreds of pages on my arcade) and got listed within a week. Of course, that could have been from some other link...hmmm..So, consider this post completely worthless...;) Or, if you want to get something out of it, is that it doesn't hurt to submit. I also just went from a PR0 to a PR5, so it appears Google didn't hate me for doing it...

There is only one advantage to having Google find your site via a link from another page: You already have one backlink.

Other than that, it makes no difference whatsoever. Go ahead and submit your site if you wish - there is no penalty for doing so.

Right, no penalty. Submit your site and wait. While your waiting stick the URL in your forum signature. Don't be shy, you can do it.
