OK , so I bought a poker affiliate site from eBay. So far everything looks fine, it works and has a great domain name (I think PM if you really want to know). Problem is even though it is 15 months old, no marketing has been done and so it obviously has PR0. But now I am wondering if investing more money into , never mind my time is really going to be worth the effort. Some help with this dilemma from more experienced Poker webmasters would be appreciated.
Think about what you're asking. Why would an experienced poker webmaster want more competition? So no-one is going to say, "go for it, it's a great industry!" with any conviction. Also, how much you get out of any time you spend on a website depends so much on various personal factors such as your own talents, as well as the quality of the original site, that it's impossible to generalise. Anyone can buy a site from Ebay, but it's what you do to improve on it and market it that makes all the difference.
Yep I guess you are right ! Silence does say something though. Got lots of good advise from some poker affliate companies. But overall looks like a tough industry !
casinos and poker rooms pay a lot for players who deposit for you (for example 888.com pays $200 per casino deposit). This is going to make this industry competitive, so if you're looking for something uncompetitive, don't go there. But pretty much like any industry, if you have the time, the money, and the knowledge, you can make it. Since the payouts are so high it might be worth it. (2 deposits a month=$400, not bad imo).
is the site in your sig? that looks like an online cardroom landing page. the onlin poker stuff is shakey b/c ongress is trying to band poker in the US and I'd say 85% of the players are in the USA. i need to see your site to know what you want. I'm starting out too, howvere I'v researched alot + I play poker alot, so i know what users want.
Have you been paying attention to the laws trying to be passed? I'd read up on that before spending a lot of time on the poker site.
It is a very competitive industry, but it is also a very big industry allowing you a number of ways to market your site. Good luck getting a high ranking porker term on google.
the laws are not to big of a concern b/c for them to charge you w/ breaking gambling law they would have to monitor your internet activaties. without a proper cause, the evidence wouldn't hold up in court. so, they are trying to make it hard to deposite funds. essentially if you can deposite$ into a site, you can gamble. so far 3rd party systems like neteller and firepay are doing well.
That is incorrect. Gambling online (expect in permissible areas) via any "banking mechanism" will be illegal once the bill is signed into law. Thus, if an American uses NETeller to send money to an online casino, the law is being broken. The wave of companies banning US business is about to being. Companies like 888 are going to announce the ceasing of taking U.S. based business on Monday. As to the original posters question. There's money in the poker biz, but it takes time to make good money. With the new legislation and loss of lots of U.S. business, that's going to get tougher.
The serious players will find a way to keep play, despite the laws, unfortunately it will be the fish that are most likely to be turned away. Of course NETELLER states that it's "business as usual"
I like your site, just start promoting it your self mate, who cares about what other people think... PROMO, PROMO, and more PROMO and you will win in the end, enver give up just keep throwing things at your target market, if you need some cheap advertising solutions for your site pm me I will help you out.
Wow. I am shoked. The market for poker in the USA has died overnight. Party and Stars will be following the 888 pull out of the US market it seemes. Meaning that they will prevent USA players from playing there. Site that allow USA players to play are the ones to market bc hardcore gamblers will continue to play there (despite breaking the law). gl with this market.
I don't know about dying overnight. This has been a 10-year process. They finally broke through. The legislation is nowhere near what they wanted though.
Online Gambling Bill Passed in House "The Washington Post is reporting that the House passed a measure that makes it illegal for banks in the US to handle online gambling transactions." There's still no such move in the Senate, but it's a step towards banning online gambling nonetheless. Since this bill isn't expected to affect the usual, legal ways of gambling domestically, one wonders if such legislation would be sought after, were online gambling to be headquartered here in the states, rather than overseas. www.tovx.com
