To most Jews, Jesus was nothing but an impostor. Simply irrelevant!

I work on Saturdays a couple times per month, including today for a few hours. He was out of town and I had to be at the shop for a delivery at 6am :(

And no, he doesn't ask me to come to the synagogue. He told me I can come if I want, but never mentioned it beyond that one time.

Also, he doesn't call it a synagogue, he calls it a temple. Dunno why or if that's an important detail. I am going to go to Israel though next time he goes.

Why do you ask those questions?

The following are comments from a person who has walked away from Christianity:

Jews reject Christ just like Christians reject Mohammed.

But in truth, Christianity and Islam are decadent compared to the forerunner of the three great monotheistic religions.

Christianity is a way of life misinterpreted by the less privileged and uneducated as a stairway to heaven if you believe in Christ and go to Church regularly regardless of what you do while in truth it's a monkish religion, rejecting the earthly pleasures. It's a religion driven by fear and greed. Islam followed its footsteps but even more foolish and severe packed along with more hatred for non-believers.

If somebody read Nietzsche anybody with a little social conscience will walk out on Christianity and Islam.

Perhaps because it was the Jews who founded Christianity. The leadership of the original Christian church in Jerusalem was entirely Jewish. All the writers of what Christians call the "New Testament" were Jewish, with the possible single exception of Luke. And the Book of Acts records the fact that it was a long and difficult process to convince the Jewish leaders of early Christianity that a Gentile could even be a Christian!

To disconnect Christianity from the Jews is to remove its historical basis. Not to mention that Jesus Himself was from the tribe of Judah. :) Yes, there is a Jewish-Christian connection. A Jew may choose not to believe in Jesus, but he/she cannot deny the clear historical fact that the Jews, not the Gentiles, founded Christianity.

The reason I asked was just to satisfy a small curiosity. It's nothing important. There are many Jews that are non observant. There are many that pick and choose: "God gave us Israel to live in, but living in this great Christian nation is not so bad either. Except of course when we come in contact with Jews for Jesus, or when one of our family members becomes a Christian." I reckon going to Israel is a good thing. You will learn how the Jews are constantly harassed by the followers of the "religion of peace". Just don't be offended if they search you. You look kind of "suspect" :p

The thing with working on Saturday was just a small thing. And the last question: did you ever try any challah bread? It tastes great.

You seriously need to take a class in reading comprehension.

    See: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=4738771&postcount=156
See: The Subject of this thread

For the second and last time, no person with the IQ of a teapot would think that the Jews should have protected Jesus with their lives - with the exception of someone with an antisemitic agenda like Mel Gibson. Here's an example: If you went into the Vatican and told the Pope and the rest of the worshippers out loud that Jesus was nothing but the son of a tramp who made excuses about her pregnancy and that his miracles were nothing but stupid pet tricks, what kind of reception do you think you would get? Are you being discriminated against if they show you the door and tell you to get out of their neighborhood? Of course not. Jesus insulted the Jews in the worst way possible from their perspective. You think Jesus' miracles were fact and that video footage was available to everyone on CNN. Dude, there were many people who never saw any such miracles and the stone gathered much moss many years later after his death.

The Jews not killing Jesus was a "technicality"? This arrogant, insensitive remark should make it clear to you why Jews, generally, are fearful and distrusting of Christians. Because all too many still harbor a grudge against the Jews as the killers of their G-d.

Do you have even a clue who Pope John XXIII was? He was one of the world's true great human beings who tried to heal differences between people and cure centuries of relentless hate towards the Jews with the propoganda that the Jews killed Jesus. It's not a technicality. Pick up a book.

If Jews are superior in many ways then perhaps you should respect the Jewish opinion about Jesus. Maybe they were onto something in their evaluation of Jesus. :p

It's clear that you've never had a day in your life where you knew what it was like to be a minority and the victim of significant discrimination for substantial periods of time. I'm assuming you're white. Why don't you move to a poor, downtrodden black neighborhood in the deep South for a few months and see how you feel. You might get a totally different perspective and understanding about human emotions. Sure the perspective of black people has changed considerably with Michael Jordan and Oprah but for many, there is a great deal that lurks below the surface of what are many very nice, genuine people. This isn't changing the topic, it's about helping you understand something simple which you clearly cannot. Good luck.

Dude, you would make a great politician. I like the way you answer the question you would like to be asked not the question you were asked. I reitterate it again: Jews are superior in many ways (lots of great inventions). So since I am not as superior and I like a straight answer, please answer this simple (for simple minded dudes as myself) question: Who were the first persecutors of Christians who were initially exclusively Jews:

    a) Jews
    b) Gentiles

remember I am a simple minded dude so I need a simple answer. Is it a or b?

You are willing to admit the miracles of Moses and not the miracles of Jesus. So use one measuring stick for one and not for the other. Again, you lost me here.

So your answer is: "It's insensitive to say it is people who kill people instead of guns." Yeah, right.

Again, of the questions asked above you do not answer ANY directly and instead bring other people in. For someone who is superior and knows better I must say, you are applying a different logic in this scenario. Or is it part of Judaism that hatred towards Christianity means loss of logic?

Just out of curiosity, how would you react if your child decided to convert to Christianity?

Your refusal to provide straight answers even when faced with facts does nothing to decrease my faith in what I believe. It just reinforces what is stated in the New Testament about unbelieving Jews. Whoops I forgot, it's about picking and choosing. We apply a logic when it suits us, and another one when not.

I remember what Nicodimus said when he encountered Jesus: "Nicodemus came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him." The we know means he must have talked with the other Jewish teachers/scholars of his time and they must have been in agreement about Jesus.

Just like you not willing to admit it was Jews who persecuted Christian Jews (own brothers initially), doesn't mean it wasn't so.

And one other thing. I agree 100% with your advice: "If Jews are superior in many ways then perhaps you should respect the Jewish opinion about Jesus. Maybe they were onto something in their evaluation of Jesus." That is why I listen to the Jews. In fact, the wisest, most influential Jew that ever lived is who I listen to. Until you show me someone more influential, wiser and more loving and caring than Him, I will continue to believe in Jesus. Remember His words on the cross as the Romans were killing Him? Those words were: "Forgive them Father for they know NOT what they are doing." Of course according to your logic it remains a dispute who He was asking God to forgive: the Romans or the Jews.

This is an established fact. There is no question about it. The thing with the muslim is first the Jew and then the Christian and then whoever else is left that doesn't embrace their religion of peace.

This is just some friendly discussion but nevertheless we need to establish certain facts. I accept horrible things have been done to the Jews in the name of Christianity. There is no question about it.

The Jews at the same time have a museum of some sort where they honoured "righteous gentiles" who protected them throughout the Holocaust. So the Jews are fairly fair people.

However, at the same time we need to set the record straight about certain claims. I think it's only fair. What you think as a non religious dude?

Jim Trotter: Now, Ms. Vito, being an expert on general automotive knowledge, can you tell me... what would the correct ignition timing be on a 1955 Bel Air Chevrolet, with a 327 cubic-inch engine and a four-barrel carburetor?
    Lisa: That's a bull**** question.
Jim Trotter: Does that mean you can't answer it?
Lisa: It's a bull**** question, it's impossible to answer.
Jim Trotter: Impossible because you don't know the answer!
Lisa: Nobody could answer that question!
Jim Trotter: Your Honor, I move to disqualify Ms. Vito as an expert witness!
Judge Haller: Can you answer the question?
Lisa: No, it's a trick question!
Judge Haller: Why is it a trick question?
    Vinny: Watch this.
Lisa: 'Cause Chevy didn't make a 327 in '55, the 327 didn't come out till '63. And it wasn't offered in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb till '64. However, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top-dead-center.
Jim Trotter: Well... uh... she's acceptable, Your Honor.

Exactly what did the Jews do to Jesus and his handful of followers at that time? Tell him to get lost after he insulted the Jews in the *worst* way possible? You're crying Christian persecution? This is hilarious and insensitive to Jews. Well... don't ask me about this persecution, ask the Romans unless you're again insisting that the Jews killed Jesus in some fashion.

The bigotry you complain about from Jews is an understandable fear. Forget about the effects of a long history of forced conversions, crusades and a modern day Holocaust to wipe out these people from the face of the earth. Talk about perspective and this newfound "persecution of Christians" by Jews. Open your eyes to the movement in far greater number than the entire Jewish population globally that brazenly calls America a Christian nation, not one that stresses freedom, tolerance and equality for all people. I guess as long as they agree with you, Jews have nothing to fear because you'll still use them respectfully as your doctor, lawyer or accountant. It's just that you won't stop trying to convince them that they've just missed the boat.

No one has any idea whether any of this ever happened. It was thousands of years ago when people still believed that the world was flat and that flies were the result of camel dung. But between the two, Moses never claimed that he was G-d and there seem to be far more people from different places who seem to accept that this may have happened, and not just Jews.

Regarding Jesus, his legend seemed to grow far more after his death than at the time any of this every happened, especially given the press coverage by the scribes of the day. From a logical perspective, I can't understand why G-d all of a sudden decided he NEEDED a man to be killed innocently for us to be "forgiven" for our sins but with no practical consequences post-mortem. Look around you. There are millions of innocent people who die for the sins of man. Look at Darfur. Look at the Holocaust. It also is difficult to understand how the son of the Almighty Himself could have been slain so easily by the Romans, in light of all the powers and miracles he could somehow perform.

You've gotten straight answers but you just don't understand them - even the multiple choice questions. Respectfully, you should invest more time in understanding what is around you than memorizing wrote that is spoon fed to you. Let's talk about "picking and choosing" and seeing how much you know about your own religion and the religion you revere so much and believe is the inseparable origin of your own. Do you eat pork? Shrimp? Catfish? Ham? Octopus? Lobster? How well versed are you in the Old Testament and its requirements? You've been telling me that Christians are really Jews with a small twist.

Persecuted? Once again, are you getting this from the Mel Gibson version of history? Perhaps you should look this word up in the dictionary and then look up what "persecution" is. See Darfur, the Holocaust, the Inquisition, the Crusades, etc. That should give you some perspective and it isn't just Jews. The bottom line is that you too feel that the Jews killed Jesus which flat out isn't even close to the truth. Get over it and start reading and stepping into the shoes of other people.

I don't care to continue this discussion because it's going nowhere. There isn't any hatred or ill will I have toward any race or religion. I have very good friends who are Christian, Jewish, Buddhist and we have a great deal of respect for each other. None of us feels a compelling need to evangelize to the other or their children and intrude upon what we may believe religiously. We accept that we can only truly trust individual people and their own actions and that we each understand that the other can have certain fears when presented as a minority against a larger group (see also "mob") that is not as tolerant and understanding. We're all willing to learn and hear more about what motivates these feelings and learn more about what surrounds us.

Slinky, you seemed to be very bigoted and hateful towards Christians and then you reverse it by saying that Christians are bigoted towards you. All because they evangelize?

Dude, get over it already. People talk about their beliefs all of the time. Some talk about evolution or man-caused global warming all day long and I don't see you crying about that. In fact, the schools in America teach things as fact to the children and you don't seem to care about that. I am betting were you live children are forced to learn things in school that you may not agree with and you are shouting about that either.

You seem to have one narrowly misguided hate that will lead you to a breakdown if you don't chill.

Evangelizing and talking about religion are not the same. Evangelizing involves demeaning other religions and proving the superiority of your religion on others. If possible making them convert as well.

Are you still pissed off as they are not teaching creationism in American schools?

Lots of misunderstanding here. First off for qworld to suggest that Christians have always hated jews is an astounding display of ignorance on the subject. Christianity was created by jews, worships a Jew, and holds the promise of Israel dear to their hearts.

But for Grandad to suggest that jews have been "abandoned" does not hold true doctrinally in Christianity. Paul notes that salvation has always been "first to the jews..." And remember it was jews predominantly who kept the faith going after the ascension. A very dangerous thing to do for them personally. After witnessing the spectacle of Jesus slaughtered upon the tree only one thing could have inspired them to keep going and maybe suffer the same fate themselves (which all but John evenually did) ---------

    THE TRUTH WHICH THEY WITNESSED.
