Hi, New to the forum and new to IM. I have been buying courses, ebooks, etc like crazy to get up to speed. I have a site up and going that is making money and now I want to ramp it up. Where I am totally confused is when it comes to Google Adwords. Some people say that you should go after Long Tail Key Words because there is less competition and recently I have been hearing that LTKW are dead. I would love to hear from some of you that do this every day. Do I use LTKW or not? And if not how many key words do I use per campaign. Sorry this is all sort of new and confusing to me.
I would love to see the source that states LTKW are dead. How can keyword of any sort be "dead"? If people are searching for a phrase then it's live game. Do your keyword research and your results will resolve any questions you may have concerning kw.
You will generally get more targeted traffic with LTKW, especially if you pick "buying" keywords. They will also cost you less. The only disadvantage is that you will get less traffic unless you have an awful lot of keywords. Personally, I would go any other way.
If you could do it right, you will benefit better with it. Look for more combination and variation of the keywords to add up on their small yet effective traffic.
Hi GP2R LTKW is not dead. I too would love to see the source that stated it. With Google Adwords, don't target the generic keywords unless you can afford to compete for it. You'll get more traffic from generic keywords but you're paying for every click so make sure these clickers converts, otherwise you're going to get a lot of browsers. I recommend you target all LTKW you can find because with Adwords, you don't pay anything unless someone click on your ads so what have you got to lose? I use the keyword suggestion tools from within the Adwords account and target every keywords it shows. As I said, I'm not paying to display these keywords, only when someone click on it will I have to pay. People who typed in LTKW are more qualified cause they know what they're searching for so you're more likely to make a sale from them. Just make sure your adwords ads are well written, matches the keywords you're targeting and direct to the appropriate landing page (if any). Don't be lazy and put all the keywords into just one ad group, that's not effective marketing. Good luck with your adwords campaign.
Longtail is the way to go. If you do your keyword research ahead of time you will make a lot more money than if you try to compete with the big boys.
