To Hummer Or Not?

    aww man, are you really considering an H2 or SUT?
    What a waste. I'm sorry but any vehicle that takes up that much space, only gets 10-13 MPG, pollutes as much as it does, costs that much, uses all those resources to make the vehicle, and I usually only see one person in the vehicle at a time, just doesn't make sense. Thanks to these beasts and other vehicles like it we are doing ourselves in even faster than before.

    I just don't see the H2 and anything there after as progress.

    To be fair my idea of efficiency is a 80 MPG Yamaha Vino 125. I even got rid of the 50 MPG Toyota Hybrid so be a better consumer/commuter/non-polluter.

    Oh and FUH2.com is pretty fun. I've got two submission so far. :) Maybe I'll cruise down to San Diego on the Amtrak one day and take public transportation to find Shawn's Hummer to make it famous. hehe.

    OK I'm off topic, but it's hard to not say anything about the glaring problem of people not caring. Shawn I've appreciated everything you've done with this forum and tools, and am glad your making a good living doing all this, but I'm sad your using this wealth to purchase such an unnecessary vehicle. :(

    Oh I do like the latest blog entry idea. The signature or under name both seem fine. Maybe it can be a choice for each user?

    Hehe... I know, it's one of those thinks you either love or hate (no in between). I've seen FUH2 also, it's actually pretty funny. I was going to submit my own car when/if I get one. ;)

    I like the H2 not because it's a Hummer, but because it's the most practical vehicle for what I want to use it for (snowboarding trips for example). What's really ironic about it all (in my case anyway) is that I'm generally an environmentalist. I'm a member of Green Peace, Sierra Club, I'm building a house that I'm looking into having it be 100% solar electricity and taking it off the grid completely.

    When it comes down to it, the H2 gets 3 mpg less than the Toyota truck I drive now. And I'll be the first in line to trade in my H2 for the hybrid version that will be out in 2-3 years. I even considered waiting until then to get one... But well, you know how that goes.

    I knew you were better than those others that just want it because it's a Hummer. :)

    I always go for the vote with your dollars ideal, and by purchasing a normal H2 you are telling letting them know you approve of their product and you want them to make more. By waiting for the Hybrid you could give your vote to the hybrid instead of one of the original H2.
    Now if it was me I wouldn't give any of my money to the Hummer dealer even if they were making a hybrid model. They all ready did bad in my book by making the H2 in the first place.

    I like your idea of the all solor powered home. I tried to convince my step-dad to do this along with the wiring his home with ethernet in every room, but he only went for the in wall wiring. :( but I'm still working on him. :)

    I'm sure there have to be other vehicles that fit your needs though right? I mean the Hummer can't be the number 1-5 top vehicles that fit your needs, can it?

    I've tried to find other vehicles that would be comparable, but I wasn't able to find anything. I want something that is able to go off road and handle the snow well (even my 4x4 truck with locking differential does not handle snow well). I also want the interior to be comfortable and functional. It's easy to find vehicles that are nice on the inside, so that part isn't the big problem.

    But pretty much every SUV I have looked at is idiotic in my opinion. Most are low to the ground, have low-profile street tires and some aren't even 4 wheel drive.

    Personally, I want a truck that has a comfortable 2nd row (which is why I'm looking at the SUT). Even though the bed is tiny and pretty much useless by itself, the folding mid-gate is nice (nicer than the other trucks that have it because on those you have to manually remove the window, rather and simply roll it down into the gate).

    So I want something that can go off-road and make it through the mountains when the roads are closed due to snow and have it be comfortable inside. The H1 is a better off-road machine (and twice as expensive), but it has to be the most uncomfortable vehicle in the world. If I was never going to drive it in the road and wanted to do a road trip through the South American jungle, the H1 would be a better choice (for pure functionality).

    But right now, I can't find any other vehicle that is even close for what I want it for. Maybe you can go find me one? :)

    BTW, split the thread because it was pretty much off topic of the original thread.

    I think the H2 is a great vehicle. The only vehicle I would purchase before that would be the new 300 with hemi. When you get into highway speeds it knocks back to 4 cylinders and helps save gas and the environment.

    A buddy just bought one and they are a beauty. Not practical for skiing though. Shawn, if you can afford the H2, go for it and don't look back. Get the convertable though.....

    Labron James has it.

    Barry Bonds has it.

    Shakria has it. http://www.shakira.com/

    I think you get my drift. You can drive what you want if you got it :rolleyes:

    They don't have a convertible version. The one I'm looking at is the SUT.

    They do make a convertible Hummer though, correct? I know I have seen them. Unless guys (and gals) are getting custom work done...

    Great presentation, is that site built with Macromedia, anyone know?

    Next are they using Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin to sell these things?

    Did you guy's see my Avatar, Jimmy Page, Dennis Rodman, Robert Plant posing at a Chicago concert a few years back.

    Rodman ass kissing Jimmy Page to get a free ticket and a photo with LedZep, not a bad deal, he gave Jimmy Page a Chicago Bulls hat and T-shirt.

    I can't depend on you for any contributions Shawn, nor Compar.

    It is all one way with you two, your way.......

    h=window.open(loc,'hummer','width=780,height=560,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,screenX=0,screenY=0,l

    eft=0,top=0');
    //var h=window.open('/hummerjsp/home.jsp?' +

    location.search.substring(1),'hummer','width=780,height=560,scrollbars=no');
    h.focus();
    }

    function launchMacromediaSite() {
    window.open('http:\/\/www.macromedia.com\/go\/getflashplayer','flash');
    }

    if(flashVersion >= requiredVersion) {
    var winOpenInterval=setInterval("launchHummerSite();",7000);
    }

    function showAlert(val) {
    alert('the value='+val);
    }
    </script>
    </head>
    <map name="download">
    <area alt="Download Flash" coords="334,56,397,72" href="javascript:launchMacromediaSite();">
    <area alt="Enter HUMMER.com" coords="226,119,349,136" href="javascript:launchHummerSite();">

    Thanks for all the help as always DP :mad:

    aww geez.
    I don't know what else to get, cuz I really haven't done research on 4x4 vehicles.

    There's got to be a better option though.

    What about the Chevy Avalanche, isn't that 4x4 and provides enough room?
    Or
    The Tahoe, isn't there a version of that that is good for what you want?

    I guess I can't give you any suggestions, but giving the Hummer dealership more money, and paying for so much gas seems rediculous.

    The H2 has a 32 gallon tank.
    At the cheapest gas I know of ... 1.90/gallon thats ... $60 per tank ... at about 12 MPG is 384 miles every $60.
    Let's say Big Bear is about 130 miles away from San Diego.
    That's 260 there and back.
    That's about 22 gallons of gas at $1.90 per gallon = $40 to get to Big Bear and back.

    Plus insurance, payments, ... and whatever else.

    walked away from PC and now I'm back .... ehh forget it.
    Why am i talking about money ... Shawn doesn't need to be Froogle with his free advertisers money.

    Well the Tahoe is not really an off-road machine, it's a glorified mini-van. It's nice as long as you never want to go off the pavement.

    The Avalanche is a decent truck, but it uses the same Vortec engine as the Hummer, and gets just as bad mileage (when outfitted with the 2500 engine), when you start adding the options, it just about the same cost.

    And if it's just about not giving "Hummer" money, both those vehicles are pointless because Chevy is a division of GM (like Hummer is).

    They look like dynamite vehicles to me, I like their website also. It is simply a glorified Military truck with a modified suspension for highway driving.

    Nothing wrong with owning one if you can afford it, if I had one I would never sell it since they are so unique.

    Gota be a great chick magnet (gang magnet) also.

    I remember back in 1975 a friend of mine had a 57 chevy that was in great shape and we would just drive down the road and it seems that everyone would turn their heads and look. This truck will get a lot of looks also. Plus nobody will mess with you for fear of getting run over.

    Do you guys get the Range Rover out there?

    Good car - I guess it's the closest we have to the Hummer in the UK.

    The Range Stormer looks pretty good too..

    And... I guess you's be more original to have a car like that. I can't imagine there being too many of them in the US (I might be wrong).
