Okay so I am working for a small business by my house and they just started getting a site up. They site is smooth running and has a lot of potential to succeed. They have me adding descriptions of all the products on the site and for awhile I was just writing them with my usual creative style. However, after thinking about it I wasn't adding anything that could help Optimize the Searching process...I had asked them if they knew what the designer of the site was doing with Keywords and Search Engine Optimization and they looked at me with utter confusion. Which actually made me feel kinda good cause I actually retained something about marketing. Well, they just told me that their designer has all of that down however I am responsible for drawing traffic to the site. (Mind you the site is not finished in the least bit) Anyways, my question is.. should I be adding slight SEO's while I am writing my descriptions in the site of just trust that the site designer has it covered? Thanks for any input =) -Courtney
I would ask for the Designers contact information and pick his brain for the knowledge he has before you go and do anything. If your job is to bring traffic to the site I would talk to the coder because the coding can affect indexing and such good or bad
The main aspect of seo for a new site is building loads of trusted and natural links. You can worry about keywords and title tags later on.
Write naturally, remember in the end it is people that are going to be reading the content and doing the purchasing, not search engine bot. Like others have said, get in touch with the designer and ask what he is doing to ensure that the site is search engine friendly.
There is no point to do this work twice. Instead of rewriting the descriptions later, do it right the first time around and put in some keywords
I totally agree, if your going to do something do it right from the beginning. Just use rich descriptive words for your products, while trying to minimise noise or junk words. For example: Also make sure the designer uses Alt Text on images for products, it will help alot in Google image search which can bring in alot of traffic and sales.
Thanks.. I actually forgot I posted this one Yes I'm a loser, I know.. Anyways, I have been adding Keywords that fit into the descriptions. I've also had a few of my non business friends look at the site, the only complaints they have had were about the measurements that the owners put in. Because they didn't incorporate the (' ")s into the descriptions. I am actually starting up my own site for creative content for marketers and non marketers, so working with this business has not only helped spark my interest, it is also building my experience. I will admit, this is going to be a challenge since there is no room to put articles, just descriptions but I can adjust. Thanks again Courtney
