Not cheap if making the graphic takes a minute or less (just multiply that by 60 and that would be like making $60 an hour). Depends on the hourly rate in the end..

My humble opinion is that even if you're a student you should probably charge reasonable prices, not super cheap, because work is work and the prices are being driven down in general so it's better for the industry overall if people don't work for free or almost free - unless you're working for your Mom or something :)

Depends on a lot of things. I don't do graphic design, though, I'm a photographer, so I don't know how well that translates? But the main variable is how many people your client wants to show the finished product to. That, along with the quality of the work, and how unique it is, how many copies you plan to sell, should get you a ballpark figure.

By way of example, I leased non-exclusive rights to this photo to a local company wanting to play up the fact they're based in Seattle for $150:

I feel the opposite about this compared to software development. I'd rather sell less copies of something that took time, skill, and creativity at a higher price, than the other way around. With an app I'd price it low and hope to make up on volume, but you can saturate a design or a photo more easily than a software application.

Some will. But then on the other hand, most people won't do business below a certain point, assuming you get what you pay for on some level. Some web sites let you put in a min and max price, and people tend to put in a minimum to weed out the bottom of the barrel. So raising your prices will open a few doors for you while it shuts others.

Your clients won't value your work if you don't. If you think making a banner that you'd be proud of is worth $100 and you charge $10, you're going to have a long, hard time raising your rates to something you're comfortable with. You still need a portfolio to get them, but don't start at next to nothing while you build that portfolio.

Remember, the people who are buying your graphic talents are using them to earn money. Don't gouge anybody, but don't feel like your skill isn't important if people are choosing your artwork.

Depends on how many versions, how many file types, how detailed, how much time required... etc.

I don't do cookie cutter design at all so all my prices are pretty custom on a per project basis.
