To exchange or not to exchange

Hi, my first post although I have been reading for around 6 months so hello to all.

I’m continually doing seo work on my site and have a dilemma, when I was planning the site I decided that I wouldn’t bother with link exchanges and just have incoming links, but I’m now wondering if I’m doing the right thing?

If I was to exchange links with similar site in the US and Oz (I’m in the UK) will it help my serps or will the fact that they are not one-way links be a waste of time?

I understand it quality and not quantity but in theory if you where me would you?

    Your opinion would be welcome

    Thanks

It is natural to have some links to sites that link to you. It shouldn't hurt as long as it is a small percentage of your overall links. Google may also become suspicious if links first appear on both sites at about the same time.

Can do link exchange with relevant websites but don't do that like a main thing... Few links is ok... That will not hurt your website :)

if you are new then a link exchange is ok. try to get links from sites with page rank.....but after your site gets big ten you will probably want to sever these link exchanges.

I agree with most of what's been already said. Especially if its a new site, I think that it can be beneficial as long as you're linking to relevant sites in the same niche.

In addition to Pagerank benefits, this can also drive a decent amount of traffic to your site when you're just getting started.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think if it won’t be greatly beneficial and in the long run I would want to remove the links I won’t bother with it.

Thanks for your help and for saving me some time

Frankly speaking, link exchange is always a good way to add backlinks to your site, especially when you exchange links with your relevant sites.
However, I have no interest in link exchange because I just find it is a waste of time sometimes.

Yeah, few links are okay since you are still new but don't spend too much time on it.
