    Hi guys,
just want to see what are your views on edu and gov links. Because i got a feedback from a kind gentlemen on this post. Telling me that he feels that edu and gov links will help my directory with power backlinks.

I stated my opinions in the post but want to know how directory owners treat this matter.

Would appreciate for a better idea of what is happening with strong directories like yours.

if it is on the main .edu page, yes, it will helps. For those subpages of the edu page i.e. those student pages, i'm afraid it will help much more than normal links.

Just go to Seo Moz Page Strength Tools and type the site. I don't own it. Jhnrang does and it has 280 .edu backlinks.

I don't think it's treated as better just because it's an edu site. I think it's because edu sites get backlinks a lot and not much outgoing links, so obviously they get higher PR. Getting linked from homepage of a edu (i'm referring to big universities though...not little edu) is huge, but most likely doesn't happen much. School department sites can have good PR since they are linked from the main site, but teachers and student sites are not going to do anything. I've been linked to from dept sites and got PR6s, I'm linked from elsewhere as well, but I do think it was helpful having the link from an edu dept site with good PR.

So I think it still come down to good PR.

So say a edu with PR 7 has your link, it will likely not have a bunch of other links on it, so you get more "google juice".

and say you are linked on a site PR7 with a bunch of advertising links on it, well you are sharing the page, so your "google juice" goes down.

That's probably the main reason why edu seem to be seen as better. If edu sites start linking off to a bunch of sites, then it will have no difference from other sites that sells advertising. Does that make sense??

unless they have good backlinks and PR... they are just like any other links anyway..

i went to check my SERPs for one keyword and, i have confirmed that ( IMO )
that .gov and .edu are not the sole factor of ranking high in SERPs.

I outranked a .gov PR 8 site with my PR 3 (probably 4 soon) site, on a 2 keyword phrase on broad match in google. Total competitive pages 426,000.

So i seriously dun think .gov and .edu links is that important! ITs all about other SEO knowledge that you use.
