Using a ".com" still seems to be king. In Australia, people expect ".com.au". Are the new domain name extensions starting to be accepted or do people just put ".com " at the end anyway to make the address "correct"?
The acceptance of new domain name extensions varies. While some people have embraced the new extensions, many still prefer the traditional ".com" or country-specific extensions like ".com.au" for local websites. However, there may be instances where people still add ".com" at the end to make the address appear familiar or correct.
If you do business specifically in Australia, try to get both the .com and com.au . Forward the .com to the .com.au
Hi & happy NY! People normally don't care abt the extension. When they search a brand or company they put its name. That is domain NAME. If people look for something they put a "key word" = their query. If your question is related to "what domain EXTENSION to choose" - it doesn't matter "what people put". Don't care abt that so much. The matter is "how Google treat your website's domain extension". I.e. WHAT activity and type of business/service/blog/media/education/government etc. does website represent, WHICH brand/trade mark (if any), WHERE the website's activity and visitors are located. Do care abt these main factors better.
