Hi if one day I want to change my keywords (example from "A" to "B") do you think how important the anchor text from external link is? Example I have 1,000 external links with anchor text "A", so I can't get a good rank in keyword "B", eh? So what to do?

Someone may consider my answer to be *stupid* (since it requires some hard work to be done), but I believe the best way is to get another 1,000 links with anchor text "B".

I'd agree with seoBear. It would take a lot of work to get existing backlinks changed. It might be easier to use keyword "B" in achor text for your next load of back links. I would ignore keyword "A" and its ranking from backlinks and work on keyword "B".

Are you saying keep to one thing... which obviously is smart enough...

But there isn't anything wrong in ranking high on various words. A lot of sites have diverse content (even within a niche) - and simply adding a B and then a C and once in a while going back to A seems like a good way to do it...

I'm no expert but I have to disagree with this.

Search engines understand your page content with the help of your page content. Backlinks help search engines find your site. Anchor text influences SERPs (along with a thousand other factors like keywords in url, keywords in title tag, keywords in body, keywords in meta tags, etc) but does not determine it. I have a fairly new site that I'm targeting keywords for, beginning with less competitive keywords. Once those keywords have ranked well, I've moved on to a more competitive keyword. Anchor text is one of off page optimizations I've used to target the more competitive keywords and I haven't seen a significant drop in SERPs for the less competitive keywords.
