Typical sort of user here....newbee just learning. Im very fortunate to be listed in dmoz and i spent some hard earned money on BOTW. Now things are very tight here (like most people), so ive been spending an hour a day to submit to 10-20 free directories. I really need to know if its worth spending a bit of money and pay the 10 bucks here and 20 bucks there, to get into some of the higher PR$ and PR5 directories. Site has been operational 5 weeks. I have no google rank, dont show in searches, have recently bought 2-3 articles in bloggs.....but this small change is killing me. It adds up!! I know people say be patient, page rank and traffic will come, but meanwhile i have 4 kids and a wife that I need to feed and clothe. Anything i spend needs to be really effective. Just spent a few bucks buying some traffic, but bounce rate went to 90% compared to 26% normally. Visit time was seconds, compared to minutes and that was for target term of darts in australia. Rather spend 20 bucks and get 10 GOOD visits then 10 bucks and 1000 BAD visits. Half this board has been here and done that and been where i am now....hope i arent sandboxed and that google does a pr update soon and that may help me. The vent has helped........but any comments would be really good.
worst thing to do is to rush to get the highest rankings. make it look natural and get only relevent links. you can forget about PR, you are not selling links after all.
To reply or not to reply is the question ? Anyways, recently spent few bucks advertising one of my first proxy site ever, and seems like its worth more than just a link , cause it brings in lots of traffic, and traffic is always good for any site, just hit 2K unique mark in 1 day . So money worth spending is on traffic rather than on just a link. Cheers
Great to hear paidposting. By the way, very witty reply . Like i mentioned, my traffic has been very dismal, perhaps i expected too much but i dont think it was people, may have been bots, but i cant tell. Glad yours come through for you. Cheers.
Directories are more like any other online business! success comes in time,.... only diffrence being, youll have to spend mroe time with your directory! i will not advise you to put all your eggs in one basket, AND definately not to open 10 sites at once! but do not pin too many hopes of instant success with your directory. if your a coder/ designer you could log on to freelance sites, thats the only service industry where the time and money balances well... ...it does for me, directories take shape in time, and need a LOT of time and initial investments. Just my 2c. M.
The OP is not running a directory What i'll say is that some people immediately find the right way to advertise their site, others need more time to experiment with the various options Personally, I 've had better success with my non-directory sites by submitting to directories and via participation on forums That is participation, posting comments an opinions i spent time thinking about, not 1 line spam comments PPC , i am sorry to say is fairly dangerous , at least until you know what converts Lastly, spend your money very carefully, in this online environment, money can simply fritter away quickly , for no useful outcome,
Buying traffic was a silly idea. Its never real traffic, just a waste of money. If you want quality backlinks from directories you have to pay. Most paid directories barely have any backlinks themeselves so its hardly worth the time it takes to submit, unless the directory will be around for years and gain in strength. Work on adding content. If its useful others may link to it.
