. . . .can anyone suggest (other than DMOZ & JAYDE), the best directories to start with? I.e., are SIMPLE. Some say FREE and NO RECIP. Then after I submit, they ask for a recip....that to me is "baiting" and not free. Please direct me to best FREE DIRECTORY(s). Thanks.

Directorycritic.com is a good place to start. I wouldn't worry so much about pagerank. I stopped worrying about it last summer and my lazy eye mysteriously straighten out:D

Thanks! The DirectoryCritic is just for directories....I want to submit actual web sites as I don't have a directory to promote....I'll try those others though . . .again, THANK YOU

What about blogs? I would think blogs allowing people to post and promote their URL are just as good as directories since they can be spidered by the search engines? Directories seem cumbersome for the most part....many require your reciprocal link, those that say they are FREE really are not, as they "bait" you into submitting and require that recip link prior to listing you after verification or you actually need to register and go through a series of steps in order to list a site . . . . places like DMOZ never list entrants anymore or say "it takes time" which is now looked upon as a ploy to validate their existence. Just wondering if there are actual decent and reasonable places to simply list your URL?

The other guys mean you can find plenty of directories to submit to at places like directorycritic.
