To all Wordpress theme designers: PROTECT your themes from spyware!!

Hello all! As a Wordpress theme designer I want to warn everyone about an issue I came across recently. I've received a lot of complaints from bloggers saying that sponsored themes contain spyware. And I was very surprised when someone reported my own theme!

It's very popular to encode sponsored links using those free PHP encoders and to encode my latest theme I (unfortunately) used ByteRun's Free Online PHP Encoder that I found here:

    http://www.byterun.com/free-php-encoder.php

So, guys, don't make the same mistake, DO NOT use their encoder! Of course we all want Wordpress users to use our themes for their blogs, so it's our responsibility to protect the themes (and bloggers) from spyware. Otherwise no one would want to use sponsored themes.

Now you wonder if there's a good alternative that is free and easy to use. YES! There is one online encoder that I've been using for ages and never had any problems with.

    http://www.rightscripts.com/phpencode/

Many of you might already know about it, so do use it next time you encode your theme.

Hope I could shed some light on this issue. :)

    Kate

Have anyone had this issue, I downloaded a few wordpress themes and my AVG detects it has a malicious code and they mostly target footer.php...

I know this sounds unrelated but just wondering.
