    I have no proof of this but each time I modify my meta tag "description" I take a significant dip in rankings before it re-climbs to the original spot.

    Maybe I am dreaming this but I have seen it happen three times

    Yes, in Google.
    Here's how it goes...my blog is about VH1 reality television shows so which each show I cover I add it to the description...

    So it began as, let's say..."leaks, spoilers and recaps for Flavor of Love", then I added another show and then a third show and a fourth.
    Each time it fell 50 plus places then shot back up again all in the space of a week on average
