To Admin: DP is not loading

    Hi DP Admin and Mods,

I'm on dial up and I found that sometimes DP loads very slow, and I mean very slow, like half minutes to load the first post of a thread. You could imagine if I want to view a thread with 10 pages of replies.

Maybe because the traffic peaks. I don't really mind about it although I prefer the normal DP speed.

The one I found annoying is that when DP is slow, it resulted at "The connection was reset" error page. Leaving me with the refresh button. And sometimes after refreshing and another minute of waiting, it resulted in that error again after displaying the 1st or 2nd post of the thread. Thus pressing the refresh button again, and again, and again. It's driving me nuts.

Could you guys fix this? Is DP timed? Could you guys set the timer longer?

    Regards,

Yeah. I was on dialup for like 2 years and only last week upgraded to broadband and I must say, everything is alot faster. On dialup DP does load slow, but so does every site

I'm not living in USA and in here broadband is NOT available. Well, at least not around 5 KM of my area. If I have access to broadband, I would never post this.

What's that? A net cafe or something? That does not exist in here.

Nope, normally DP is loading 5 seconds for the 1st post of a thread. That's normal. But sometimes DP is loading very slow. And thus that problem above in my 1st post of this thread appears.

Yep, I would be happy if I could move to broadband. I wish the infrastucture here is available.

Currently there are 1,644 people (446 members and 1,198 guests) browsing the boards. 90% of these users will be actively requesting content from the server and perhaps even submitting new content. All of this is server intensive.

With a board of this size there is nothing they can do. If you're that bothered about the speed of this site, perhaps you should consider making a donation to the server costs.

Okay then - get a new home. I recommend you move 5 km in the direction of broadband.
It's not a problem with DP.

If DP is timing out for you, that is a browser option... you'll need to edit the setting on your end, as there is nothing DP can really do. However, you'll find the site loads faster if you head into your account options and turn off avatars (and possibly sigs, but there are no images, so those are not that bad).

Not really, in fact most load OK.

DP on average loads in a second or three @ 49.2Kbps which is not bad compared to many other boards. As once the images here are cached, it seems to be pretty quick (of course, it takes about a full minute to load if the cache get's cleared).

I'm on dial-up, and IMHO, a faster net connection is not worth it. To get DSL I'd need to move into the city proper. No mountain view like i have now. The only stream nearby would be under the street and full of sewage, no wildlife, no pond in the back yard, no 28 acres that I'm currently on. I could get satellite, but by the gods that's a bit too costly for what you actually get.

I'd not even get cable. That line stops at a place where you are still a stone throw away from your neighbor...and I rather have a slow connection then an annoying neighbor (that I could throw rocks at).

I moved from the city, and there is likely nothing anyone or anything that can get me to move back.

Give me the damn money! Stop posting, go to the bank and send me the money. I'll move, get a broadband and give you tons of reps for each of your post.

Solomon, I'm on fast speed connection and I was having connection issues myself during the past week. Those errors seem to be resolved at this time. Hopefully you will see improvement as well. Good luck :)
