As I am relatively new to this forum, please forgive me if this subject has already been broached. My main intention is to make people aware of a way of getting .TK free domains. Tokelau is a small island in the South Pacific that was relatively recently awarded its ccTLD, though the lobbying and hard work of a Dutch business man. The organisation that award ccTLDs were loathe to hand out the .TK domain, primarily as they thought that the island did not exist. Fortunately one of the board had been there in 1978 and they application was granted, after some 10/11 months of large investment and hard work. Now the .tk domain has improved the small South Pacific nation's GDP by 10% and bought many things that the islanders would have never had had. Now each island is in contact with each other by email, due to the new computers and satellite broadband internet access (the ocean is too deep to lay cable). Doctors can get advice from their more experienced counterparts in other parts of the world and the kids on the islands can get decent schooling via video-conference. How does all of this relate to YOU getting a free domain? Well the .tk domain is available in two versions, one is FREE, the only stipulation being that you need to carry advertising on your website. There is also an alternate version, with a $6.95 registration fee, provided that the .tk domain is free. HOW IT WORKS? It is ideal for those of you that use domain hosting sites, such as geocities, that want to break away and have your own domain and lose the unbusinesslike domain names they carry. Upon registration through .tk, you will be given a field into which you enter the URL of your current site and voila! Your new .tk domain name is registered. WHERE TO GO..... Check out www.dot.tk today, you wont be disappointed!
As far as I know, due to the businessman's lobbying on the islanders part and the fact he put up the money he agreed a deal to share the money with the islanders. What his cut of the pie is, I have no idea. It does go to show though that one person can bring about a ccTLD.
