I use to get about 7 orders a day.. I changed the Title/META for the frontpage of AcademyFloor.com and now I am losing sales (thinking I was ready to upgrade) Any tips?
When I changed my title I got bumped down the SERPS for about a week. Then I came back on Page one even stronger then before. I think that will probably happen to you but if not then simply change it back and if there is no extra competition bumping you out then you should be back where you started.
Title changes (or any on-site changes, for that matter) do not have immediate impact. So, wait and see if things get back to normal - they should BTW, are you losing sales, or are losing traffic?
The key things to be looking at is: 1) Have your SERP rankings changed for your primary keywords? If no then it's NOT your <title> change as that is the only one of the two that affects your ranking... 2) Have you simply lost traffic? If so this is likely your <meta> description change as this can definitely affect click-thru-rate. If you've lost traffic then I would ask: 1) Previously for your URL's targeted keyword phrase(s), did your <meta> description typically get displayed for the snippet or did Google construct a snippet? 2) Now that you've changed your <meta> description, for your URL's targeted keyword phrases(s), does your <meta> description typically get displayed for the snippet or did Google construct a snippet? You have like 4 possible combinations of situations: Used To Show........Now Shows..........Likely means <meta> ------------> <meta> --------> Old <meta> was likely better <meta> ------------> constructed ----> New <meta> does not contain keywords from search phrase(s) most often used to find URL constructed --------><meta> --------->Old constructed snippet better than your new <meta> constructed --------><constructed ---> Old constructed snippet better than new constructed snippet Your <title> should be targeting a single keyword phrase (2 or 3 if they are VERY similar like same phrase just plural instead of singular or something like "XXX YYY - XXX YYY ZZZ - XXX AAA YYY ") with the primary keyword phrase first in the <title> and other phrases if they exist reinforcing the primary but adding in maybe one additional world or variation each. Since the <title> should contain the phrase(s) that MOST consumers use to find your URL, you should try to use every keyword from the <title> ("XXX", "YYY", "ZZZ", "AAA") somewhere in the <meta> description. This way Google should display your <meta> description as the snippet MOST of the time (if every keyword in the search phrase exists in the <meta> description then Google will show it as the snippet 99.9% of the time). PS: What were the old values of the <title> and <meta> description?
It seems when I make a change I always drop back down for awhile and then climb back up the ladder over about a week or so. You may want to give them some time. SEO certainly is time consuming with a lot of educated guessing. Any of you ever made a change, waited, nothing happened for a bit, modify your initial changes, Just to find the next day that your original changes just made the grade and you now have to scramble to put back the original changes?
when ever we make a change to our pages google usually moves us around for a while but then it settles in it's place, i wouldn't be to worries.
