I was reading on the forums that making your title and description different helps get better traffic from search engines. Does Google read descriptions?

Are these meta descriptions? If so then these should be different to the title and they are very important in google.

Search engines index more than one page of your site so it is possible that many visitors might enter via a deep page in your site. Having the same title and description for all the pages gives a very little chance to get traffic for more specific topics on your site.
