Hi guys, I'm thinking about jumping on the wireless broadband wagon but dont know where to get started. Do I only need a wireless broadband modem or a router aswell? I will be connecting to one computer so I think a modem should be enough.
I have a wireless Internet connection. I have a 2.4ghz antennae on my house that "captures" the signal from the tower, and then a Cat5e line running from that into the house. It can go directly into the computer, but I run mine through a router and then to the computer simply for the added protection.
Just to clarify ... do you mean you have broadband and are thinking about a wireless connection instead of a wire to your phone line; or, do you mean you are trying to get going with Wireless Broadband? Since you mention Tiscali, I'm guessing the first option; you are getting rid of the telephone wire between your computer and telephone jack. Standard wireless modem-router will do the job. BT make some pretty decent wireless 56Mbps router-modems (note, that's Mb, not Kb) if that's an option for you. http://www.shop.bt.com/icat/modemrouter
Yeh thats what I mean. Does that have to be modem and router built in or can I use a wireless modem without router? I hate when I don't know what I'm doing.
That sounds expensive wrmineo. What is that running you per month? I bet that it is a lot. Can you use it for laptops as well, like laptops that use the Centrino?
A wireless modem is fine but to be honest, you might as well get the wireless modem / router since the difference in cost is not that much and they are pretty standard and available from almost everywhere that sells that type of equipment.
