Tips with web stats

Hi, a couple of questions on looking at the stats for my website.

I get on average 300 unique visitors a month and 2600 hits. Because it's quite a consistent number will this take into consideration any automated visits if you will, robots etc. I know it's a very small amount but I am new to SEO.

There is also a 'HTTP Status code' error with a '404 document not found' section showing 91 hits. Can you explain what this may mean in relation to the way I have set up the site.

Lastly can you detect anything really obvious I am missing from an SEO/construction perspective. I would appreciate your feedback to help me add to the amount of traffic I am getting at the moment.

    site is: www[dot]moneyme[dot]co[dot]uk

    Thanks.

It means people are hitting a URL on your site that doesnt exist, most likely a broken link. Use Xenu's Link Sleuth to check for broken links and fix if there is.

If I were you I'd make sure that you serve a proper 404 page. It looks as if your hosting account is set-up to serve the hosts 404 (the default error page). This means your host is piggy backing your traffic which is very much the norm.

Hi cormac, thanks for the reply over in Scotland here.

I ran software to check for broken links and found none, then I checked manually and still couldn't find any. Can you suggest any HTML quirks where I may possibly find a link that may be interpreted as broken.

I'd also appreciate any tips on how to go about setting up my own 404 page if you have the time.

Any other tips on my site in general from an SEO would really be appreciated.

Can't quote post in the review section yet so I would really appreciate any help here.

    Thanks again.
