I was actually writing a Squidoo lense on How to Get Indexed by Bing when I realized that many people are having difficulties doing just this. The gist of my lense (which, as of this post is roughly 80% a description of Bing and 5% useful information with the other 15% being I'm-too-tired-to-write-anything-really-fascinating-...-I'll-do-it-tomorrow,-teacher), is that anything you can use to get indexed in Yahoo can be used in Bing. The reason? The fact that Yahoo! is supposed to be running a backend similar to Bing due to a deal that was made last year between Microsoft and Yahoo. (As a matter of fact, Yahoo! is supposed to say "Powered by Bing" sometime soon.) While I've managed to get one page of my site indexed so far (just the index page), I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the "jumpiness" I've been seeing in the Yahoo! Site Explorer lately? What I'm talking about is the fact that Yahoo! will show anywhere between 20 pages of my site when I enter solely the domain and sometimes it will show just the index page. I've also noticed that Yahoo! likes to update both it's backlinks and indexed pages every six or so hours and this is somewhat erratic in my mind. On a completely different note, the only tip I've seen about getting a page indexed in Bing is to have backlinks en masse built to it. I suspect the reason most people see a popular blog post or two and their home page indexed is that this is because the majority of backlinks are focused on these pages. Edit: And the part I forgot to add is that therefore the most effective way to get indexed by Bing seems to be to build a ton of links to it from reputable sources. I'm halfway theorizing that it may also have to do with the number of links frmo a domain, too. Anyone have any other findings they'd like to share? Theories even perhaps?
While I admit that is somewhat helpful, I meant more specifically tips related to Bing. I'm aware that standad SEO practices seem to work for large sites, at least.
Bing seems to just be a buzz for no real reason. It's not to say you can't get traffic from Bing, but realistically if you are indexed by Google and ranking for your keywords, it's a good chance you'll be that way in Bing. Besides, Google will send more anyways as not too many people really use Bing
My simple question is "whether it is worth optimizing for Bing" . I have seen different views. Let me summarize. I am in the top 20 for a keyword in Google. It sends me some 60 visitors. I am ranking 5 on yahoo and Bing. They collectively send me 10 visitors a day. What I must do? I optimize for Google and I am looking forward to reaching top and receiving 1000 visitors a day from it.
