Tips of a Portfolio

Alright, so I have been writing for awhile, my my content samples are growing and growing, as well as my resume. But in all this time I have still yet to make my first portfolio. It would save me so much time to just get it done rather then sending out sample after sample to every new client who asks, which is about 10 - 15 times a week.

So, do any freelance writers have any tips for me? Maybe a good format and layout, and a reliable hosting site for a small business page like this? I want something simple and professional that will draw clients without a huge dent in my profits.

Come on, give me some ideas! ;)

Hostgator has reasonable prices for hosting, I think. You can also get a domain name for $9.xx at GoDaddy for .com domains and even less for .info.

As far as the layout and format goes, you could divide them into several categories. Like you can create general categories such as Articles, Press Releases, etc. Or if you focus only on writing articles, you could separate them into subjects such as tech, health, general info, etc.

Here are some samples you could look into:

By the way, thanks for this post. Reminded me that I need to organize my portfolio one of these days. :)

    Thanks for the links!

As for the hosting site, I was thinking of Hostgator, I have heard a few bad things about their customer service, but otherwise the prices are great. I will have to check it out...

I got my domain from one and one, and I use a Wrodpress template. It's cheap, easy to maintain, and the simplicity of the site keeps the focus on my work.

I'm extremely fussy about customer service issues. I've used HostGator for years, and they're one of very few companies I'd wholeheartedly recommend to anyone if you need shared hosting. I've never had an issue with their customer service folks. On the rare occasion I've needed them, they've been extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I have heard they're not as good about dedicated servers though, so if that's what you want, you may be better off going elsewhere.

The whole year I've been hosted by Hostgator, I have yet to encounter problems with their service. Not that I'm looking for malfunctions on my site. :D

I use Hostgator. Service has been amazingly good... I get way
more value in terms of the service demands than what I pay for.

Easy to use. You can't go wrong starting with HG.

Well, it looks like I may have been informed about Gator. ;) I will have to check them out, for sure. This would be my first time purchasing and using a host site, so it's nice to know there is one out there that's trustworthy.

I think there are many website that offer free samples on resume, or portfolio writing. Also I think a search engine would be of good help.

You could make do with a free blog [Blogger] and attach a custom domain name. [like iwrite.com]
