I clam up when it comes to talking about myself, even on a blog Any tips on how to go about it? Does anyone know where I can find a basic outline?
People read an About page to find out who you are, and what you know. If you are coming off as an authority, you better have some sort of resume to put down, or at least experience. Who you are, the purpose of the site, maybe a philosophy, what you hope to accomplish, and most importantly, a way to contact you, at least by email. Keep it short and sweet. No need to write a soliloquy.
In one of my about pages i introduced myself with my real name and mentioned what the blog will be concentrating on and my desire for its direction and how i intend for it to be useful and encourage others to contribute. Dont tell them about your dog and fave food unless its only a personal blog. If its relevant, tell them where you have experience, come accross as friendly open and approachable and not arrogant. Dont call yourself an expert, guru, whizz or anything. If your 12 yrs old and talking about debt consolidation then dont tell them your 12 yrs old things like that are best avoided.
