Tips for webdesigners who use Google Adwords

    Hello,
I wanted to see if anyone else here is advertising their webdesign firm with Google adwords. I just started last week with the phrase "CITY NAME web designer" and got three clients in 1 day. Since then, I've gotten about a total of 5.

    Not bad for one week.

However, I had to get the top spot for that. I was paying a CPC of around $3.

Anyone else have any tips or ideas as to what other phrases I can use to get more potential clients? Anyone else successfully using Adwords for their Webdesign/Hosting business?

Don't ignore Yahoo and MSN. With Yahoo you can bid lower on terms that are more specific and get a higher spot than the people who bid higher on more general terms. For instance, if you bid on Austin Web Design and bid $1.00 you will get a higher position than someone who bid $3.00 for Web Design, whereas Google would put the $3.00 bid higher (in general, since Google uses another mysterious algorithm when deciding who gets the higher spot). And even though MSN is more like Google than Adwords I am currently getting away with lower bids on terms since some companies have been slow to open accounts (when they are even available).

The only number that matters, IMHO, when you are selling something via PPC is Cost Per Conversion, and whether the average sale for that term justifies the Cost Per Conversion.
