Tips for promoting a non-commercial website?

Hey guys, as a development team we have a research project to test-drive and fine-tune our sentiment analysis tech. The website aggregates smartphone reviews, analyzes them, assigns scores and extracts micro-summaries for each feature.
I tried posting it as a non-commercial project on different forums but I just get banned for "spam".
I admit that eventually we plan monetizing this tech, but we aren't (and we won't be) charging end users for using the services.
Any ideas how we could promote it?

Free classifieds such as Craig's List might be useful.
    Social Media sites.
Instead of spamming the forums you might establish a conversational presence and place your link in your signature.
Write some informational articles about your reviews and submit them to article directories.
Find some related blog sites and start making comments and posts on them. Make sure you submit quality content. Don't spam there either.

You might try a PR campaign by writing a press release about your project and targeting journalists in media outlets whose readers would find your news to be of interest.

Go to social media. If it is a non-commercial site, then social media would be a great place to promote. If it is all about tech, then it might get an audience. However, the articles should be great and not rehashed ones. If you can get unique content that others haven't covered much yet, then you just might have something there.
