But that was a long time ago. Google has penalized many directories since and probably somewhat discounted those links. But judging by the ranking of the sites in my experiment, directory links are still counted.

Is buying links from PR7 or PR8 sites still also useful or has that gone away as some are stating. I would hate too spend money for links that are not useful.
