Hey there, I'm new to the blogging thing and was wondering a few things. What is the most valuable thing you have learned in creating a successful blog, and what would you have done differently?

The reason I ask is because I set up a blog for a family member, and I think its a pretty novel concept that could get some readers. I just have no idea how to promote it.

    Check it out:

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Relevant Topic: Check
Layout: Check (albeit off the shelf)
Directories: Negatory. What are the good ones?

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

-start commenting on a bunch of other blogs that are related to this blog ( I have to agree nasser224u has a point, i don't really see a common theme among your first few posts, but I do enjoy reading the topics that have been discussed so far). You will start making friends in the blogging world this way, and you can link to each other and help each other out.
-you can also start writing articles and submitting them to article directories, have these articles link back to your blog. This will increase your search engine rankings and you'll get a bunch of readers to your blog this way.
-also when I clicked on the RSS subscription thingy, it doesn't seem to work on Google Chrome for me, it might just be my connection or something but I thought I would let you know.
-it also helps to maintain a consistent posting frequency. Your readers will come back to your blog more often if they know when to expect fresh material.

    Good luck!

Thank you Dangles. I agree the "theme" is a bit vague right now. I think she is going for sort of a pop culture/medical science fusion. Almost like a Perez Hilton meets WebMD sort of thing, haha.

I'll also look into the article thing. Is it ok to re-purpose blog posts for article directories?

    Thanks again!

Make sure you use plugins for SEO and ease of navigation and tracking

All in One SEO, Google XML Sitemaps, Prettylinks, Contact Form, Privacy policy Generator are some of the standard plugins that are used in most blogs.

I wouldn't re-publish posts that you made on your blog and submit them to other article directories. The reason for this is Google normally penalizes someone for "duplicate content". Normally the site that publishes the content first won't get in trouble with Google, but to be on the safe side I would change up your blog posts before you submit them to article directories.

I wouldn't do it either, but not because of the duplicate content issue - rather it would cheapen your blog and those article sites. If you're a blogger then you already have plenty of content to submit. Or at least change it enough that visitors to each would get a different experience.
