with tiny urls being used on twitter and other places. What effect does that have on SEO ? Is it just another crap link or does it really work the same way as a normal url from an SEO point of view ?
Logically i think it should work. Google follows the link to your site, so tiny url or not. google knows where it leads to. To me thats all that matters. If it's anchor text surely it shouldnt matter
In fact, it DOES work. These URL shorteners install a 301 redirect on the tiny url that permanently forwards visitors, spiders and YES link juice to the destination page. So there is no harmful side effects for SEO.
Yes but I don't think you can just tweet your own website like crazy with tiny URL's and expect it to rank on google because of it.
That's true 'coz Twitter links are nofollow. Nonetheless you might appear in the Twitter feeds on the SERPS for a specific topic.
Tiny urls don't cause you to lose any of the link juice (yay)! But, as previously stated Twitter is no-follow. Regardless, there's a lot of talk in the online community about how Google is taking a look at how viral content is - e.g. how often it is dugg and tweeted, not just how often it is linked to. I say more traffic, more exposure, more links, more everything! Why not; it all helps!
