OK..I did see some old posts on expected time to wait for a transfer to complete some say 7 days minimum... what happened to 3 days ? how long should I wait. it will expire in 2 weeks. why can I get tech support in 24 hrs, (hopefully less ) to resolve an issue and not have someone code in some numbers to release my domain in 24 hours. My other problem is I have a good add-on domain with the new host waiting on the sidelines...(yeah , OK it is sports related ) It cannot be shown until that domain is transferred. Maybe , I'll ask new host to switch the primary domain name to this one. I don't want it to get to the point where the current registrar, onlinenic [dot] com from old host, trys to renew it in 2 weeks when it expires, thereby bypassing me and I lose the domain that has many good backlinks. Can that happen?. I did pay new registrar already for 1 year before it expires. I hear too many stories of registrars doing shady things.. So, I want to be prepared. Unfortunately, I already lost one like this years ago and now have a hyphenated dot com name. After that, I always try to control the domain name by registering it myself vs. a host controlling it.
I believe the advise is that you should give it at least a month before expiration to transfer, some domain name registrar will not permit you to transfer an expiring domain name as either they do not want to lose out on the renewal income or because they are afraid that if anything happens in between, the domain name would be stuck in limbo with difficulty in renewal. If you want to transfer a domain name out, ensure you factor in sufficient time for the transfer with allowance. Some domain name registrar will be quick in the transfer like a transfer from Godaddy to Namecheap took under 24 hours to complete. But when I transferred from Domainsite to Namecheap, it took almost 3 days. To be on the safe side, renew first at the current registrar then transfer it to the new registrar. Well, for your other problem, it looks like your web host placed a restriction on the setting up of an existing web site. That is not a problem, ask them to set it up on their end, they can do it with ease. A few clicks and it should be done.
